A: Hello Anne, you could always research those valid questions from the manufactures website, more than likely even download its MSDS sheet Material Safety Data Sheet for the answers. Look for the VOC data.
Truth be told, i recall no odor at all, perhaps a tad bit of odor from the wall covering itself.
My father was a master "paper hanger" in his days. I grew up with his use of "Wheat Pastes" as the wall covering adhesives.
Your question of safety are valid for many reasons.
I found the product to be odorless to my recollection. I would use it again.

A: This all begins before you ever hang paper. Use a high quality primer specifically formulated for wallpaper and allow to dry for at least 24 hours; I prefer Zinsser gardz. Saturate with wallpaper remover, peel back paper and scrape of adhesive. Repeat.
