Q:Will it filter PFC/PFOA contaminants?
by|Mar 15, 2016
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry. This system does not reduce PFOA's. Glacier Bay does offer a reverse osmosis system and while it is not certified to reduce PFOA's, reverse osmosis systems are known to reduce these types of contaminants.

Q:why do i still have that nasty looking film on top of my freshly brewed coffee

    Answer This Question

A:  Have you flushed the filters prior to using the system for consumption? The filters are carbon base which could emit carbon sedaments . The filters need to be flushed by running the water for up to 10 minutes. Mine took about 5 minutes in 30 seconds to 1 minute intervals.

    by|May 3, 2023

A:  That's usually from the coffee or coffee filter. Also sometimes caused by a type of scale buildup in the coffee maker. You can check for sure by going to a pharmacy and buying a gallon of distilled water (usually just a dollar or two) and brewing a pot using that water instead of tap/filtered water. Distilled water is usually the purest water a person can generally buy at a store, much better than filtered water. Ships on the ocean distill ocean water to make it potable/drinkable, and that process removes more than 99% of all contaminants, including the salt. If you brew a pot with distilled water and still see that oily/bluish film on the top of your coffee in the pot, then it either a coffee maker in needs of cleaning, the filters used, or the coffee itself. Some coffee beans like to be brewed at hotter or cooler temperatures than others, and most basic coffee makers only have one temperature: Very hot.

Q:I installed this and now the water coming out of it has little floating particles in it. Any suggestions?

            Answer This Question

A:  Could be two things. First, if the filters are brand new, you could be seeing some carbon particles coming out the new filters. Carbon in this fashion is harmless when drunk from this type of filter system and isn't something to be very concerned with. When installing new filters in any water filter system, I always run the water for 5 to 10 minutes to flush the air and any loose carbon from the filter before I actually use it. Second, I've noted that when the water first comes out of the tap it is full of tiny air bubbles. You can see them swirling around in the glass after you fill it. If you let the glass sit for a minute after filling, they should be gone or nearly so. I at first thought I had a faulty filter system when I saw this and so filled a glass and left it sit on the counter for 30 minutes to see what particles settled out of the water. There weren't any, and after emptying and refilling again I could see they were all air bubbles swirling around, eventually floating to the surface and going away. If you fill a glass and let it sit for 30 minutes and find anything more than small/tiny black particles on the bottom of the glass, then you may have the wrong kind of filter for the type of water problem you have. If it is only the tiny carbon particles, then flushing the filter by letting it run for 5 to 10 minutes should help a lot with that.

A:  Keep flushing until the water is clear , it will subside. This is a carbon based filter which could emit partials until flushed out. Instructins say up to 10 minutes . Mine was about 5 minutes and is now clear.

A:  Max output is .5 GPM AT 30 to 125 PSI if it is less than this remove the filters and make sure they are in the proper position. check that any supply lines are not pinched, also check the faucet to be sure it's not clogged and the valve is actually opening.

A:  I have the same problem too. I tried to call Cust Service, and they showed me that the size of the hole in Filter 2 may be why the pressure is so low. That does nothing to help with my issue though. Hope you had better luck than I did.

A:  I would say you probably could, but distilled water from my local pharmacy is two dollars for 2 gallons. I'd use that instead (same thing all manufactures recommend using in their CPAP machines).

A:  The Advanced Drinking Water Filtration System is rated to be less than 1 micron.
