A:  We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing a fishy taste in your water. This is not a characteristic of this unit, but could likely be caused by the water coming into your household. Things like high pH or hard water could be contributing to this in combination with this system removing harmful contaminants such as cysts, lead and chemicals. If you would like to call our tech line at 800-247-1087 we would be happy to help identify possible causes and solutions.

Q:What does the orange light do? Battery 6 month indicator? Does it stay constant orange if filters need to be changed?

                Answer This Question

A:  The faucet houses a simple timer circuit. After inserting the battery, it starts counting the seconds. After 6 months worth of seconds, the light starts to blink indicating it is time to think about replacing the filters. You reset it by removing the battery and inserting the new battery that comes with the new filters. Having said that, I used my filters for a year, and I just reset the blinking light by taking the battery out for a minute and putting it back in. I'm on some hard city water, and after a year I noticed a decrease in water flow using the same filters. I just replaced them yesterday actually, and I had forgotten how fast the water used to come out of the little faucet when it was on. New filters made a difference.

Q:What's the difference between this product and the Ultimate Defense Drinking Water Filtration Sys. also by GLACIER BAY?

                  Answer This Question

A:  The Ultimate Defense system is a reverse osmosis unit as I recall, and it filters more items/things from the water than this one does. Some additional chemicals and dissolved solids I think were the main improvements over this unit. RO systems work a lot like a water softener in that they will use water to backwash the filters, making them last longer.

A:  The Ultimate Defense system filters the same contaminants as the Advanced system, and also reduces bacteria and viruses and pharmaceuticals .

A:  The ultimate is a reverse osmosis system , it filters more elements with differant filter stages and has a water holding tank. You need to determine what your trying to filter to decide which system is best for you.

                    by|May 3, 2023

A:  Thank you for your inquiry. Both systems reduce sediment, chlorine taste & odor, cysts, lead, and chemicals. The Ultimate Defense Drinking Water Filtration System is also certified to reduce bacteria and virus as well as pharmaceuticals.
