Q:is there an outside piece that picks up the temp and humidity and transmits it to the indoor thermometer?

A:  Yes, the satellite sensors (up to 3 of them) can be used outdoors. I purchased this same product over twenty years ago (from Radio Shack, sold with their name on it) and it is still working great! I have three sensors and the main unit (shown above) scans the three remotes every 30 seconds. I have one outside, one in our basement and one upstairs in my office.

    A:  The time span of the Min/Max function depends on when you last reset the device (using the Mem/Clear button). You can clear it every day, every week, before you go to bed, whatever you want).

        A:  Yes, the Wireless Digital Thermo-Hygrometer with 1 Remote Sensor is battery operates. It takes 4AA batteries which are included.
