The GE White Rechargeable Power Failure 0.8-Watt LED Night Light (Model # 11281) is a nightlight that needs to be plugged in at all times so it can be charged for additional use as a flashlight and emergency light. It will turn on at dusk and turn off at dawn - this feature cannot be overridden. There is no way to have the light operate only in the event of a power outage. Best wishes on your project.

A:  Hi Lenny, Thank you for your question. The GE 11281 Power Failure Nightlight has a nightlight and flashlight feature. The nightlight will operate when power is currently on and the unit is plugged in. When the power goes out, the nightlight will turn off, but the when set in the “Auto” mode, the flashlight will automatically turn on. That way you can see the light when the lights go out.
