Answer This Question

A:  Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. Yes, this range cooktop has white speckles on black glass, with white patterns around the burners. Any glass cooktop should be easy to clean if using the CeramaBryte Cooktop Cleaner Cream with either the CeramaBryte cleaning pads or scraper. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Q:does model JB640DFWW have an interior light that goes on when the door opens?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. Many new ovens today do not have an interior light switch that automatically comes on when the door is opened. An ON/OFF switch operates the new oven lights. This allows you to turn on the oven light and look through the window at the food without having to open the door. It is located on the control panel (or on the area above the door). I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

            Q:Steam vent
            by|Sep 21, 2014

            Answer This Question

A:  Hello - this is Nancy at GE. I'm sorry to hear that your previous range top panel discolored. I'm happy to help you. Free-standing radiant cooktop ranges are vented through a duct behind the right rear burner on the backsplash. This will cause that area of your cooktop to feel warm and, perhaps, even seem to be turned on. We recommend to clean this area with soap and water or a vinegar and water solution. We do not recommend using commercial oven cleaners, cleaning powders, steel wool or harsh abrasives. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

Q:What is a hidden bake element? Also, does GE model #JB650DFCC have a storage draw, broiler, and timer? (these items were not listed)

              Answer This Question

A:  Hello Lulabelle - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you with regard to this range. The hidden bake element is under the floor of the oven were it is concealed under a non-removable porcelain enameled oven floor. This eliminates hard-to-reach areas that collect food and spills and makes the oven easier to clean. Yes, the model #JB650DFCC has a storage drawer, Hi/Low Broil, and a Timer On/Off pad. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

A:  Hi Joanne, This is Joyce from GE. I will be happy to help. Our GE Free-Standing radiant ranges provide hot surface lights in the center front of each cooktop. When the glass around each burner goes above 150 degrees Fahrenheit, the hot surface light will come on to remind you that the surface is hot. After the unit is turned off the light will remain on until the area around the burner has cooled to below 150 degrees Fahrenheit. This usually takes about twenty minutes. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for your question. Have a good day!

A:  Hello Lizzie - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you. At this time, the color samples are on backorder. However, bisque matches biscuit or bisque products from plumbing, countertop and other appliance sources. Bisque is a warm blend of vanilla, ecru and buff. I hope this helps! Thanks for contacting GE!

Q:this flat top oven, does it require special pots/pans to work or will any pot/pan work on the surface

                      Answer This Question

A:  Hello, This is Donna with GE and I am happy to assist. Yes, model JB640SFSS offers a radiant glass top. Flat Bottom pans are essential for good cooking performance since the bottom of the pan needs to touch the glass for the best heat transfer. ~ Use Medium or Heavy-Weight cookware. ~ Stainless Steel is highly recommended. A sandwich clad bottom is especially good because it combines the durability and stability of stainless steel with the heat conduction and distribution of aluminum or copper. ~ Heavy-Weight Aluminum cookware is also recommended. It conducts heat faster than other metals and cooks evenly. Aluminum residue sometimes appears as scratches on the cooktop, but these can be removed if cleaned immediately. ~ Copper Bottom pans are also good, but they can leave residues on the cooktop that appear as scratches. These can be removed if cleaned immediately, but do not let a copper bottom pan boil dry. An overheated copper pot will leave a residue that will permanently stain the cooktop. ~ Porcelain/Enamel pans give good performance only if they have a thick, flat bottom. Avoid boiling these pans dry, as porcelain can melt and fuse to the surface. ~ Glass or Ceramic cookware is not recommended. These pans may scratch the surface. Glass is a poor conductor of heat so cooking times will be longer and they may require constant attention during cooking. ~ Stoneware is not recommended. It may scratch the surface and will give poor performance. ~ Cast Iron cookware is not recommended. If the cookware has a burr or rough spot, it will scratch the glass surface. Additionally, it is slow to absorb heat. Once this type of cookware heats up, especially on high heat, it holds an intense amount of heat which is transferred to the cooktop. This can cause the element to shut down as a response to the temperature limiters which indicate surface temperature is too high for cooktop components to handle. ~ Porcelain Coated Cast Iron cookware is okay as long as the cookware is covered completely with porcelain enamel. Caution is recommended when using cast iron cookware that is not completely covered with smooth porcelain enamel, as it may scratch the glass ceramic cooktop. Additionally, if used at hi heat for a long period it will hold heat as described for plain cast iron and could shut down in response to the temperature limiters which indicate surface temperature is too high for cooktop components to handle. ~ Carbon Steel cookware is okay as long as the cookware has a flat bottom and is smooth to avoid scratching. ~ Titanium cookware tested well on ceramic cooktops. Ceramic titanium is a non-stick finish applied to a base metal. We tested one with aluminum as a base metal. I hope this helps!
