A: Hello JoeW - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. This is a great inline water filter and is designed to last approximate 750 gallons of water or six months. I'm sorry, it is not designed nor approved to be backwashed and reused. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!

A: Hi, This is Lisa from GE. The GXRLQR is an inline water filter. It attaches to the water line. Filter FQSLF is a dual stage, under the sink water filter replacement. I hope this helps. Thanks for checking.

A: Hello,
This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help.
Both the original RPWF and the new RPWFE can be used in your refrigerator model GFE29HSDSS. The new RPWFE features the Advanced Filtration of the RPWF as well as being NSF certified to reduce VOCs. For more information on these filters, please see the Home Depot links below:

Q:Can this model be hooked under my sink & water line for my Whirlpool bottom freezer ice maker? The house wasn't built with a water line pipe in the wall, so I would have to run the water line from under the sink to the freezer. And... Is this model only a replacement filter? If it is, what other parts do I need to get the system hooked it up the first time? Also, If I also decide to get a sink water spout, can it be used for this too, if I put in a splitter?

A: Hi Curious,
This is a GE replacement filter for GE refrigerators only.
It will not work in any other application.

Q:Why are the filters not interchangeable anymore? In a previous home I had upgraded the filter because I was unable to find the model that came with the refrigerator, and it worked just fine.
Currently I've put the GXRLQR filter system in my boat. It works fine. Now it's time to change the filter and wanted to upgrade to the VOC filter (green filter, I think) and it would not charge. Both filters look identical. Why does it not work?

A: Hello - this is Nancy at GE and I am happy to help you.
The FQSVF replacement filter which reduces Lead/Cyst/VOC is for the GE Dual Stage under counter filter. If this is the filter that you have, then these filter replacements should work. However, if you have the in-line refrigerator/icemaker filter, then the GXRLQR is the proper filter.
We apologize for any confusion. Thanks for checking with us!

A: It is inside the upper compartment of the refer.

A: Hello George,
The GE Lead and Cyst Quick-Change Refrigerator and System Filter Model # GXRLQR does not go inside a side by side refrigerator. It is compatible with most refrigerators without built-in filtration by installing in existing external refrigerator water line.
Some side by side models do offer the Smartwater filter that is located inside the refrigerator.
The water filter cartridge location may vary by model. The majority of water filters are found in the back upper right corner of the refrigerator compartment. The SmartWater Filtration Systems used in GE refrigerators filter both ice and water. The carbon block filters (MWF/GWF/HWF & GSWF/MSWF) reduce chlorine, odor, lead, cysts and improve taste.
I hope this is helpful!

A: In my case, there was no internal filter. I installed an exterior filter on my GE side by side. Hung it on the wall behind the fridge. Good luck.

I would recommend to check with the other manufactures external filter. GE filters are not test with other brands.
