Q:I have a well which means I have hard water. How will this effect my new dishwasher?
by|Mar 3, 2014

Answer This Question

A:  Hi-this is Sue from GE. Using a rinse agent is important, especially in hard water areas. A rinse agent breaks down the surface tension of water, improving water draining from dishes. This reduces drying time as well as water spotting and streaking. Rinse agents may be found at any grocery store in the dishwasher detergent section. GE recommends using Jet Dry®. This dishwasher features a Rinse Aid Dispenser with Indicator and Adjustment. You may want to consider a GE Water Softener. Using soft water results in less scale buildup in water heaters over time, prolonging the life and maintaining the water heater’s efficiency. The reduction in scale buildup also make tubs, showers and sinks easy to clean. Clothes will be softer, cleaner, and last longer and dishes will get cleaner with less spotting. You can use up to 50% less detergent for laundry and dishwashing. Thanks for checking with us!

Q:Does this earn Energy Star? How quiet is it? How long does Normal wash cycle take?
    by|Jan 24, 2014

    Answer This Question

A:  We have had our dishwasher for over a month now and are very pleased with it. You asked about the Energy Star rating. According to the GE website it meets the ENERGY STAR energy efficiency requirements. It is VERY quiet. Honestly, we have to look at the lights on the front to know it is running. A major improvement over our previous one. We had to leave the kitchen to talk! We use the steam feature, and full drying cycle. It takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. We have learned to start it at the end of the evening.

A:  Hello, This is Joyce from GE. I will be happy to help. The GDF540HGDBB is an Energy Star Qualified model. The dBA is rated at 52. Please see the chart below for an idea of what the different dBA sounds will sound like. 18 dBA - Normal breathing* 38 dBA - A soft whisper* 48 dBA - Libraries* 58 dBA - Moderate rainfall* The lower the decibel rating the quieter the dishwasher. On sensor models GDF520 and up, the Normal (sensor) and AutoSense (sensor) times are max times and those can be shortened based on turbidity (soil load). The Normal wash is 117 minutes with no other options selected. If you select the normal washer and heated dry it will be 174 minutes. Thanks so much for your question. Have a good day!

A:  One in the top, one under the top rack, and on under the bottom rack. The one under the top rack only sprays upward, which may be normal, but seems like a design miss to me.

A:  I would imagine you're not putting the same amount of food in the dishwasher as you would a sink garbage disposal, so in my opinion it would be perfectly safe.

A:  Hello, This is Donna with GE and I am happy to assist you. Dishwashers create no problem in the septic tank provided it is properly designed and maintained. Septic Tank systems do need regular cleaning. The recommendation of the U.S. Public Health Service is that septic tanks should be cleaned when the combined depth of the sludge and scum added together exceed 1/3 of the liquid depth of the tank. I hope this helps!

A:  Hello, Thank you for your question on the GE Dishwasher GDF540HGDBB. The doors are not considered interchangeable. This is not recommend by GE and not cost effective. The door is not sold as one part and a service technician would need to assemble. Donna with GE

A:  While it isn't easy, it can be done. I have some flatware that won't fit, and I don't think they flip up very well. I have half of them taken off for what won't fit, but by separating them, they get cleaned a lot better!

Q:can it be set to not make start up noise, and not turn on automatically when open or close?
                by|Nov 14, 2013

                Answer This Question

A:  Hello- this is Lisa from GE. I will be happy to assist you. There is not a way to stop the start up noise the dishwasher makes. The cycle should not start until after the door is closed and Start selected. The dishwasher should not turn on automatically when the door is closed or open. Models equipped with an electronic control may display blinking lights or beeping sounds. This alerts the user that the dishwasher may need attention. Since the lights and sounds mean different things on different models, it is best to refer to your Owner's Manual for an explanation of the various blinking lights and beeping sounds. The lights and sounds common to most electronic models are: A beeping sound indicating the dishwasher door was unlatched during the cycle. To correct this condition, close dishwasher door to resume cycle and the beep will turn off. This beep will be heard approximately once every 30 seconds. Blinking "Start/Reset" light. This indicates that the dishwasher has been reset and is in the process of turning off. This light will continue to blink for a time period between 75 to 90 seconds depending on the model. Other blinking lights or beeping sounds may indicate a problem with the dishwasher caused by power surges. To correct the problem, try pressing the "Start/Reset" pad to reset the dishwasher. If the problem persists, reset (reboot) the control by turning off the circuit breaker supplying the dishwasher for 30 seconds. Turn the circuit breaker back on and the dishwasher should function normally. I hope this helps. Thanks for checking!

A:  In the bottom under the blades. It simply twists and can be rinsed and reinserted and twisted again to lock. However, I am not happy with our purchase of this model and would advise against it if you have not already made your purchase.
