Q:Is there any conerns with cooking with cast iron cookware on this cooktop?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello Sabrina, Thank you for your interest in the GE CleanDesign Radiant Cooktop model # JP356BMBB. Flat Bottom pans are essential for good cooking performance since the bottom of the pan needs to touch the glass for the best heat transfer. Medium or Heavy-Weight cookware is best. Cast Iron cookware is not recommended. If the cookware has a burr or rough spot, it will scratch the glass surface. Additionally, it is slow to absorb heat. Once this type of cookware heats up, especially on high heat, it holds an intense amount of heat which is transferred to the cooktop. This can cause the element to shut down as a response to the temperature limiters which indicate surface temperature is too high for cooktop components to handle. I personally use a cast iron skillet on mine but do use extreme caution. Stainless Steel is highly recommended and Heavy-Weight Aluminum cookware is also recommended I hope this helps! Donna with GE

Q:One complaint was the corners on this model are curved and may not cover the cutout .

A:  If the cutout is standard for that size cooktop, it will be fine. If you have concerns, and are in the Washington DC metro area, I recommend Ke.G.B. Home Improvements of Fairfax: (703) 517-6325 From my review of the same cooktop: "...One thing we found very disappointing is that Home Depot does not offer cooktop installation! Not until after our purchase, did we realize this dilemma. There are very few vendors who trim granite, and that is what our new cooktop installation required. After trial and error, we finally found someone @ a reasonable price in the Northern VA area who had the skills necessary....Ke.G.B. Home Improvements of Fairfax: (703) 517-6325... Thus far, we are very happy with the cooktop, having had it expertly installed."

A:  This cooktop top has squared corners. My original cutout had rounded corners and was a half inch too small, so using a jigsaw I widened my cutout and squared off the corners. Buyers should carefully measure the original cutout to make sure they buy the correct sized unit.

A:  It's really up to the old size cook top that you had in your kitchen. I had to have mine done, like measured and cut to fit my New Ge cook top. It was worth it! :)
