A: This product is the underlier for the shingles. It's not easy to put down but it's worth it. I love to look at it on my shed and sometimes I just look at it on the roof and say "YES, I DID IT MYSELF".

A: It should be covered with some sort of roofing material. I covered it with corrugated metal roofing. It would be fine without however being open to the environment will damage anything. It’s a protective layer for your roof deck, so you should have some sort of roofing material, but it does not necessarily need to be shingles

A: Yes it can be used under slate tile and asphalt from the manufacturers website I quote: “ GRACE ICE & WATER SHIELD® is a versatile underlayment material that may be used on sloped roofs, under mechanically attached roof coverings such as asphalt shingles, slate, tile, cedar, and standing seam metal in many climate and assembly conditions (see limitations for additional information).”
That Should I answer your question. I have used this for years on my roof and it completely eliminate leaks and is a very good underlayment.

A: Not if you keep it covered with shingles

A: If you install it correctly, it will last well past 10 years - even 20 + years. However, make sure you cover it per the instructions. Meaning, it's not designed to be the top layer and exposed to the sun, etc. Also, if you have never used the product before, make sure you plan ahead - if the sticky side touches itself (meaning, sticky side to sticky side), it is next to impossible to separate it and you'll have to get a new piece and, as you know, it it very expensive. With all that said, this is a great product.

A: This will probably not break down in 10 years. This is a underlayment that is being used more and more as a water proof underlayment under roof shingles so it is protected. Even with nailing roof shingles this material seals around nails. Even using it over vertical sheathing on side of house due to the protection it provides for water intrusion with whatever siding being used covering it
Used also to provide water proof shield around the installation of new windows which again is covered by window trim

A: It’s an underlayment and must be covered with shingles. It cannot be left uncovered. UV will breakdown in a few months.

Q:What is the maximum temperature this product can handle? I'm comparing this to the Grace HT version that is more money. I want to install this under a WHITE metal roof. Likely summer surface temperatures of 145-155 degrees F.

A: Highly recommend grace ice and water shield. Used it on two homes in past 10 years with metal roof. One was white other brown. Are you putting it on the entire roof or the valleys. Waste of money on entire roof. Only do the valley. My opinion.

A: Recommended application is directly to roof deck; please consult your local Home Depot Pro desk for potential permissible applications dependent on current roof composition.

A: I would give this plan a thumbs down. I'm sure there would be numerous failures just in the process of installing it, never mind over the life of the roof.
