A:  It took 24 hours for the freezer to "settle in" but it cycles between rock-hard frozen and thaw. I wrote this in my review. It makes ice, but if I try to store frozen ice in a bin, it thaws and re-freezes into a solid mass. Absolute havoc with ice cream!

A:  Hello wantinfo! One option is not necessarily more energy efficient than the other. With auto cycle (defrost) you would need to turn off power and allow it time to warm up to clear out any frost. Upon startup it will take more energy to cool the refrigerator fully down. With frost free there is a fan blowing dry air through the refrigerator using power and not allowing the refrigerator cool down.
