A: Hi Cookie - we advise against using on a wood deck or surface that is flammable or susceptible to damage from possible sparks or hot ash. If you must use it on such a surface, be sure to place a protective barrier between the fire pit and the deck. You can use brick/cement pavers, slate, tile, or a fireproof mat designed for the purpose.

A: yes I have mine on a wood deck but I put a piece of2foot by 2foot sheet metal under it just to be safe it catches the embers that fall out of air vent holes in the bottom and always have a bucket of water near by as you always should when a fire is burning

Q:It seems that it would be much easier to empty the ashes if the screen were not in place. Is it easily removable?

A: Hi,
If you want to complete clean the bowl, you can take apart the screen from the bowl to do so.
Thank you.

A: I screwed the screen onto the base and just pick up the whole thing and empty into trash can. You don't have to screw in the screen and just remove each time you empty.

A: Yes, it is safe to use the Bessemer Pit on surfaces like a grassy lawn, providing that you do not overload the firebowl. You should not use it in the midst of very tall grasses which could catch fire. Always heed dry-weather burn bans and precautions.
