Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It's 700 sq ft as listed in the product overview below. Someone added the bullet points up top and fat fingered a extra zero in the sq ft. statement. Will reach out team and ensure that is corrected. Thanks again and our best to you this season.

Q:How many seeds to a bag and what about soil preparation? I have many day lilies, canas, agapanthus, crape myrtals, low growing roses in gardens close to house/pool. But would intermix these in the far planting area with Russian sage, butterfly bushes, irises, lavender, salvias- hot lips. What might you recommend? Trying to blend and create gardens to encourage more butterflies, bee’s and hummingbirds. Are these deer resistance and when should I plant for best results in zone 9?

          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question and detail. We fill our shaker bags by seed weight and seed weight can vary by lot number however there is enough seeds to cover 700 sq ft. If you don't need that much we sell individual packets in the stores on the packet seed display. If your looking for varieties to encourage more butterflies, bee's and hummingbirds we would suggest considering our Butterfly and Hummingbird mix. Search for 202244947 and it should come up, you can order online and have it shipped to your home. In regards to soil preparation we encourage you to broadcast seed thinly and evenly over prepared soil (ensure soil is exposed so seeds come in contact) and cover seed no deeper than 1/8 inch. For best germination, soak planted area thoroughly and maintain moisture 4 to 6 weeks, then gradually reduce watering. You can plant in spring or fall however some varieties will not bloom until your second season. If you need anything else don't hesitate to contact our customer service team at 508.285.5800 and our best to you.

A:  To prepare the soil, I get a pic and break up the hard soil. Then I add water to the soil and add the seeds to cover the surface but I do not use the entire bag. Then I water the seeds and after a week where I see some grow, I add more of the seeds.

Q:The area I'm considering for these seeds gets heavy early morning sunlight then shade in the afternoon. I'm in Pensacola, (8b) so we have hot summers & generally mild winters. Is this a good choice for a large bare spot?

A:  Thank you for your question. This mix will need 6-8 hours of sunlight for best performance and yes a good choice for large bare spots receiving that amount. We also offer a shady wildflower mix in a seed packet that should still be in stores this time of year in your area. If you need further assistance/questions don't hesitate to reach out to our customer service team at 508.285.5800. Thanks again and our best to you.

                          Answer This Question

A:  Good day and thank you so much for the nice comment. In comparing the Sunny mix to the Hummingbird Butterfly, the Sunny mix has 18 varieties of flowers and 5 are in the Hummingbird Butterfly mix. Thus we have 13 varieties in the Sunny not found in the Hummingbird Butterfly mix. Hope this helps and our best to you this gardening season.

                            Answer This Question

A:  Hi SW. When to plant the Sunny Meadow Wildflower Mix by Ferry Morris depends on what part of the country you are in. For the colder zones, you may want to wait until the last frost date before you plant. In zones 1-6 you can plant your wildflower mix in late fall. In the warmer zones such as 8, 9 or 10, early to late winter is a good time to plant the wild flower mix. On the West Coast, wild flowers popup in the early spring, especially after a wet winter. Ground temperature is a major factor in wildflower seed germination. Seeds like poppies will germinate once the ground temperature is around 50 F. Other wildflower seeds may need a much warmer soil temperature of 70 F to germinate. Spring, summer and fall are all wildflower-planting times. It all depends your climate and the weather. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. Rick_HD_OC
