Q:What size Torx head does this use?
by|Jun 28, 2023

Answer This Question
A: The Guard Dog uses a TTAP 25. Each box comes with a bit and you can buy them separately. the item # is FMGDTTAPT25-2PK.
A Torx T25 bit will also drive these but the TTAP performs best as it's button feature "locks" the fastener in-line with the drive bit.

Q:WHAT IS THE SHEAR CAPACITY OF THESE SCREWS
by|Sep 15, 2020
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Thank you for your question. The Guard Dog 2" screw is a # 9 gauge per ASME B18.6.1. It is a commodity screw, not a structural screw and for this reason its design values are found in the NDS (National Design Specification for Wood Design) that gives design values to standard screws. Per Table 12L, the for single shear (two member) connection the design values will vary by the species of lumber that it is being used on. If two different species of lumber are used, use the lower number. i.e.for SYP (Southern Yellow Pine) the shear capacity is 118 lbs. For DF (Douglas Fir-Larch 108, and SPF (Spruce-Pine-Fir) 92. If you are looking for higher design values, we would recommend looking into our Structural LOK Line of screws, like TimberLOK, HeadLOK, or LedgerLOK or visit our site www.fastenmaster.com or call us at 800-518-3569 and ask for our Technical Team.
