Q:Can these be used in wet locations such as stringers for a deck
by|Jul 19, 2021

Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. Not sure what you mean by "wet locations". Do you mean wet lumber like pressure treated or lumber that is going to be in constant wet conditions like a dock. We would recommend stainless steel on the latter. The Fasten Master LOK Series fasteners may be used where fasteners are required to exhibit corrosion resistance when exposed to adverse environmental conditions and/or in preservative-treated wood, and are alternates to hot-dip-zinc galvanized fasteners. The fasteners have been evaluated for use with wood chemically treated with waterborne alkaline copper quaternary, type D (ACQ-D). A:  Thank you for your question. The LedgerLOK screws cannot be used on exterior veneers like brick, masonry, or stone. These types of decks a non-ledger deck is required. Q:Are these screws sismic rated?

          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. Structural wood screws such the LedgerLOK do not typically carry a seismic rating. However, the LedgerLOK can be used in seismic areas when a design professional takes the values in our evaluation report (ESR-1078) and designs the connection based on the anticipated loads. This report can be found on the Technical Tab of our site at www.fastenmaster.com

Q:I need to attach a 2x8 ledger board, which is of 1.5" thickness, to rim board, which I believe is of 1-1/8" thickness. I put the 1-1/8" here because the I-Joist used is NORDIC JOIST NI-40X. So I am wondering is this 3-5/8 in. screw works? Even the house rim board is 2" thick, it seems this one will still penetrate 1/8 out, right? I know I can use the 5" version, but don't want to penetrate too much if 3-5/8 in is enough. Is this 3-5/8" version mainly used for the engineered wood rim, 1-1/8"? Anything I might have missed in here? Thanks.

A:  Gary, Without seeing exactly what you're doing, it is hard to say. I will answer the main gist of your question this way. The product listed below is made specifically for engineered wood products and is 1/8" shorter. I believe the coating is specific to engineered wood along with the threads. This 3 1/2" version also solves your 1/8" stick out issue. https://www.homedepot.com/p/FastenMaster-3-1-2-in-FlatLOK-Engineered-Wood-Fastener-12-Pack-FMFL312-12/205881131
