Q:My setup only requires the drain pipe to go through the top, is there a closed grommet to seal the second hole? Other thought I have is to put a small bit of 2" pvc with a cap on it in that hole, but would prefer it to sit flush.

A: Hi Donna. This cover is designed to provide a gas tight seal to the Everbilt and Jackel sump and sewage basins. It may not fit other basins. It will keep surface debris, including harm, from entering the basin. Please make sure that hair does not enter via a sink where dog bathing occurs.

A: Hi Jimmy. The empty hole is used to connect a pipe to vent the basin. It can be covered if you are not planning on venting the basin.

A: My answer to your question is the age old dodge “it depends…”
If you are replacing an existing pump and there is a vent pipe in place, use the hole. If this is a new installation, local code may require the crock to be vented so you would use the “extra” hole. If neither of the above is a factor it becomes your choice. Personally, if not required, I would put a movable cover over it to use as an inspection port. Covering it will also keep your wedding ring from falling in and reduce the likelihood of creepy crawlies from hanging out there!
