      Q:Can I rip the edges down a half inch on either side to reduce the width down to 11 inches and still maintain the structural integrity of these shutters? I have a hearth that is 44 inches wide and I would like to bifold two pairs of shutters side by side to cover the whole space. My only other choice for louvered doors would be custom made.

As cutting them does affect the structure of the shutter, it would be a decision made by the installer. Alternatively, we'd recommend reaching out to Home Depot for a custom Ekena Millwork quote. For functional hardware, there are lots of options but a few popular ones are: NR481BL, NR484BL, and NR254.
