Answer This Question
A: Moteltan, Fiberglass filters are a thing of the past. Today~s filters are made of synthetic materials that absolutely do not gas out. They are made into pleats which allows for more filtering area. Furthermore, they are electrostatically to collect and hold pollutants from the air.The exact nature of the media is not disclosed:however be assured that it is harmless.

A: Joe, I guess that this is a question for Home Depot to answer but I will offer some information and advice about furnace/ hvac filters which are the same thing. It appears to me that Honeywell makes many of the filters sold at Home Depot. The Dupont filter appears the same as the matching Honeywell filter.I would not let terms like platinum fool you.As for FPR, this scale is not often used so that it becomes difficult to compare the efficiency of filters. Most filter brands use the MERV scale. I have seen numbers ranging from MERV 8 to MERV 14. Naturally, the higher the number, the smaller the particles that are filtered out of the air. Foam filters are effective only for the largest particles as is also true of fiberglass filters. They may protect your system but do little for your lungs. If you are concerned about the air in your home, smoke, or live in a high pollution area, any brand of filter rated MERV 13, is what you want to purchase.

A: MAC, IT WILL FIT.THE NOMINAL SIZE IS ALWAYS MORE THAN THE ACTUAL SIZE OF THE FILTER TO ALLOW FOR EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION AROUND THE FRAME.IN OTHER WORDS, THE FILTER WITH THE CARDBOARD FRAME IS ACTUALLY LESS THAN 16X25X1.!

A: NO CHEMICALS ARE NEEDED IN AN ELECTROSTATIC FILTER. THEY WORK ON THE PRINCIPLE OF NEGATIVELY CHARGING AIRBORNE PARTICLES AND THEN TRAPPING THEM ON POSITIVELY CHARGED FILTER MATERIAL.

Hello, CW! Thank you for your feedback. I'd like to apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced. Our DuPont Platinum is a MERV12 filter. ... "

A: MIKE, GOOD QUESTION AS SOME COMPANIES USE MERV WHILE OTHERS USE FPR. THE DU PONT FILTERS USE MERV.AN EXACT CONVERSION TABLE I DO NOT HAVE. HOWEVER, THE DUPONT PLATINUM ARE A MERV 10.- EXCELLENT. FOR THOSE OF US WITH ALLERGIES OR LUNG PROBLEMS, LOOK FOR A FILTER WHICH IS MERV 13 OR MAYBE YOU JUST CARE ABOUT YOUR LUNGS . WE ALL SHOULD AS REPLACEMENTS ARE RARELY AVAILABLE.

Q:How do these filters control odors? Do they have an activated carbon layer?

Answer This Question
A: DON, GREAT QUESTION! SIMPLY, DU PONT FILTERS DONOT HAVE A CARBON LAYER LAYER BUT THEY DO HELP CONTROL ORORS. HOW? THE FILTERING MATERIAL HAS BACTERIOSTACTIC QUALITIES MEANING THE FILTER DOES NOT COLLECT ODORS AND IT FILTERS THEM OUT OF THE AIR -PERIOD.THAT IS WHY I DO NOT LIKE HEPA FILTERS WHICH ARE VERY EFFECTIVE IN COLLECTING THINGS BUT,TEND TO COLLECT ODORS AND KEEP THEM SENDING INTO THE AIR AS THEY ARE OFTEN NOT REPLACED FOR A YEAR OR MORE.

A: YES,IT WILL DEFINITELY HELP BUT AMERV 13 FILTER WOULD DO A BETTER JOB. 3M FILTRETE HAS AN EXCELLENT ULTRA FINE PARTICULATE FILTER. ALSO REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR FURNACE CONSTANT RUN OR AT LEAST WHILE SMOKING UNTIL IT CLEARS. ATTENTION ALLERGY SUFFERERS- KEEPING YOUR FUNACE FAN ON AND WINDOWS CLOSED IN APRIL/MAY WILL HELP REDUCE MISERY.BEST TO CHANGE THE FILTER MONTHLY FOR MAXIMUM BENEFIT SUMMER FALL WINTER AND SPRING AS IT IS THE TINY PARTICULES THAT STAY IN YOUR LUNGS FOREVER.
