Q:What are issues regarding using on fiberglass tub? Overview says not for use on Fiberglass. Why not?

Answer This Question
A: My best educated guess is that it attaches to tub walls with a vise. That puts extreme pressure on a acrylic tub that is fragile. Most tubs are cast iron, no worries about accepting pressure from the vise..

A: I love my bar. It adjusts from 3 inches wide to 7 inches wide. I actually put it over a wooden box I have around the tub, and I had to use a jigsaw to notch it out. Not a problem at all! I can pull myself out of the tub now.

A: Yes

A: Yes it does, when you crank it tight-it doesn't move. Which is what you want. Install 2 years ago and no rust and still solid. If you get a shower chair, make sure it has a back and arms-so many don't. You may not think you need it but some times it's just nice to sit down, relax and wash your feet. Then I got a new shower curtain so no one could all the equipment in the tub. Problem solved.

A: No...….I don't think so. It doesn't spread for 9", maybe about 4-6".

A: No the product review says that it extends from 3" to 7"wide. I bought this a year ago because I had a wide dam in my walk-in shower (61/2"). Very Happy with the purchase

Q:Will it clamp small enough to fit a cast iron claw foot tub with a rolled lip?

Answer This Question
A: I don't think so. I think it has to fit snug against the both sides of the tub in order to stay immobile.
by|Sep 14, 2023
A: The side of the tub must be a minimum 3" thick..
A rolled edge/lip tub as I picture one is not thick enough on the side for the clamp to tighten.
You might add a spacer/shim to make up the thickness, but that would be pretty iffy to my way of thinking.

A: My guess unfortunately would be no it would not. If the "rolled lip" doesn't sit flat and the edge of the tub remains in the air, I am afraid there is no support underneath for the flat panel of the lower part of the grab bar, if I am picturing the rolled lip correctly. You could always buy it and try it out. If not I am sure a Home Depot store would refund you. It is a great bar...I bought two, one for my mom and one for my mother in law. Good luck.

A: I really don't think so. If I remember back that far, this tub has a rounded top. This device is made for flat sided tubs. More to the point, a built in tub, not a free standing tub.
by|May 5, 2023
A: No, it's not designed for that type of tub.
