A:  The QWALL acrylic wall panels are thin and lightweight by design and they must be glued to backer board for installation. The thickness is approximately 1/8" and this is so the panels can be easily trimmed to size without the use of any special tools before they are glued to your backer board. A:  The shower kit that includes a "backwall" kit will have all of the flat acrylic panels needed to cover all of the interior shower walls (left, right, and back). This kit will actually come with 4 large flat panels that will need to be trimmed to fit your opening, then glued to backer board. A:  The shower base that comes with this kit must be installed in a bed of mortar directly up against studs. Once the base is installed, you will need to install 1/2" thick moisture-resistant backer board on 3 sides of the base (all sides except for the threshold/entry side). The acrylic walls will be trimmed to fit the opening, then glued up to the backer board. Once these steps are complete, you can install the shower door. If your framed rough opening is only 59-1/4" wide, the shower base will not fit the opening. A:  Thank you for reaching out to DreamLine. If your framed rough opening is only 59-1/4" wide, the 60" wide shower base will not fit the opening. The shower base cannot be trimmed. If you have not pulled out the old tub yet and you are not down to the studs, you will probably have more room once you pull out the old system, so it is definitely recommended that you remove the old system first, then measure and make adjustments accordingly to fit the shower base once you are down to the studs. To adhere the QWALL acrylic walls to your backer board, you should use a construction-grade adhesive that specifically states that is safe for use on acrylic. Most of the adhesives like this will say the words "tub surround" right on the tube (i.e. Liquid Nails Tub Surround, LocTite Power Grab Tub Surround, etc). Once these large acrylic panels are installed/adhered onto your backer board, you can treat them like any other finished shower wall material when considering installation of other fixtures onto the finished wall surface. Just like you could if you tiled the walls, after you have installed the Q-WALL system, you can elect to install a grab bar on your finished wall surface if you want to.
