Q:Is this self sticking to the drill? Does the white fuzzy backing peel off to stick to drill?

Answer This Question

A:  The Velcro backing is not removable so you’ll need a hook & loop arbor attachment to use with a drill.

A:  Hi Tb! This product was designed for use with orbital and DA sanders in wood, metal, and plastics. Our Premium Hook and Lock backing enables repeated attachment and removal of discs for a consistent secure connection.

A:  This is a hook and loop or velcro attachment. The white fuzzy part sticks to the sander. Do not peel off.

A:  It will stick fairly tenaciously to a sander made for it. I can use it until it wears out and it still stays on.

A:  This is not for a drill. This is for an orbital sander which has corresponding attachment for the velcro (white backing) that just gets placed on orbital sander.

A:  Thank you for your question! If you are going to use sandpaper, I would recommend starting with a medium grit like 100-120 so that you do not create a scratch mark in the metal material.

A:  I would imagine the 60Grit would work well, just let the paper do the work- don't lean into it. Should take off chipped and loose paint quickly.

A:  Usually in my experience 60 grit is the starting place. Depending how chipped the paint is, I would use a paint remover first.

A:  When your removing paint you generally want to use the most coarse grit you can without scratching the base material to much. 60 grit should work fine but use light pressure. You do want some scratch on the metal surface so the new paint has something to adhere to. They make abrasive discs such as Scotch Lock material that may make the job easier and less expensive as you won’t go through as many does discs. You can then use a 120-220 grit sanding disc to cleanup any remaining paint and prep the metal in one step. Hope this helps.

Q:How do the hook&look backing attach to my Dewalt 6420 disc sander?

            Answer This Question

A:  You will have to buy a psa to hook and loop conversion pad. It will attach to your psa sander and the other side is hook and loop so you can attach these sanding discs to it. I use only hook and loop sanding discs, and I find them to be economical and quicker to change from one grit to another. Hope this helps.

A:  Hi Ken, Yes the Dewalt 6420 is a hook and loop sander and it will work with these discs. To attach, take the disc, align the holes on the disc with the holes on the sander and press it onto the sander.

A:  I know DIABLO makes multiple sizes of round, center whole sanding discs, some even larger than 9", but not sure about about 9" rounds per se. I think Eagle and Norton make 9" center whole discs but not sure where to purchase those brands except perhaps on line.

A:  They call it hook and loop. I’m not sure why it is called that. But it is a piece of sandpaper that basically acts like Velcro to your orbital sander.

A:  I think you are asking how it attaches to the sander? If so, the back of the sandpaper has the loop side of the hook and loop, your sander should have the hook section already factory attached to it. Some containers also have a secondary, much finer hook and loop pad that allows the use of sanding screens and the above sand paper.

A:  It depends on the surface underneath. If you are using an expensive hard wood, then no coarser than an 80 grit to start, or use a solvent to remove the paint. I recommend having several grit sizes (80 and up) and test a small area.
