Answer This Question

A:  I have used my 3x21 belt sander for many years and have never seen an installation direction requirement on any of the belts I've purchased and have not looked probably except for the first time I used the sander. SOOOOO I ran out to the garage and grabbed one to look to see if things might have changed - no direction arrow or statement and the package said "bi-directional flush joint runs smoothly in either direction. So slap that baby on how ever you want and go to work. Mike

A:  Yes, these belts are directional. There is an arrow printed on the inner surface of each belt that shows you how to properly mount it on the sander.

A:  You can install them either way but the underside of the belts do have arrows pointing in the direction it should be installed. Hope this helps.

Q:What grit sanding belt is recommended for stripping paint off hardwood floors

A:  I would think for interior floors you would not want to go lower that 80 grit then go back over with 120. 36 grit is very, very aggressive and I think you will be spending too much effort trying to take the sanding marks out.

A:  16 grit: Use as the starting grit for floors with shellac finishes, single layers of paint, or some very hard floors, like maple.

A:  Hello James, and thank you for your question and interest in Diablo sanding accessories. The Grit of the belt will really depend on the amount of material that needs to be removed. If you have a larger volume of material to remove, I would recommend the 36 Grit. However, be careful to not gouge the material. The 50 Grit bet will work better if less material needs to be removed, it will just remove the material a little slower, but will be better to ensure not gouging the surface.

A:  I certainly would not use 36 grit on a floor. Not only will it eat away the surface but it is like to dig into your floor. Use 120 or higher and go slow.

A:  I used these on a Porter Cable and a Craftsman and they worked fine. I have not used them on a Wen sander. Might want to check the Wen operator manual to see if standard 3" 21" belts will fit.

A:  Hi, Bubba - The Diablo 3” x 21” Sanding Belts will fit all 3” x 21” Belt Sanders. The sanders will have a tensioning lever or dial to help properly tighten the belt on the sander for proper use.

A:  All sanders marked 3" x 21" take the same belts. Just watch how course you go and how much pressure you use. Yours is a light duty sander and course grit and to much pressure will slow your sander speed to much. Good luck with you project.

A:  The belt has a cloth backing but there is no adhesive on the inside of the belt. The only adhesion is the joint connection on the belt.
