Questions and Answers for DIABLO 3 in. x 21 in. 120-Grit Sanding Belts

A:  Thank you for your question and interest in the Diablo sanding belts. The Diablo sanding belt can be used to remove adhesive from wood floors. We caution sanding too aggressively as to not damage the floor. We would recommend using either a 50 or 80 Grit belt to help minimize the chance of damaging the wood and gauging the subfloor. If the belt loads with adhesive, we recommend having a sacrificial piece of wood to sand on and remove the adhesive build up. Another alternative if it suits the space better would be to look into a Floor adhesive remover. We hope this helps!

A:  They are great belts. However any sanding belt is going to gum up when sanding adhesive. You will also need to be careful not to sand the floor.  If I were to go the sanding belt route I’d probably use and 80 grit and be very careful about getting the wood. Assuming you plan to refinish the wood floor. I’d also look for and consider using solvents to remove as much adhesive as possible first. 

A:  Hi Greg, Diablo sanding belts will work on granite but we recommend using it only for evening edges or slight shaping. For more aggressive material removal, we recommend using Diamond grinding wheels. Also, we recommend using some water to lubricate the sanding process. Hope this helps!

A:  If all you are trying to do is get a clean straight edge, 60 grit will do that. But if you actually need to polish the edges, depending on the quality of your cuts, the hardness of your stone or tile, and the finish you want, you may need to start as low as 60 grit and work up to 400. Experiment. Finish with buffing compound. You have to wet sand to get a good finish. Changing out the paper between grits is a pain, so set up an assembly line if you can. The belt sander does a nice job of keeping the cut line straight and you can neatly chamfer the edges of the tiles. You can get pretty close to a factory edge with just enough variation to indicate that a craftsman did the job carefully by hand. It's been years, but what I did was clamp the belt sander to a simple plywood stand knocked together from scrap wood. This suppported the sander on edge and gave me a fence to support the tile so it was square to the sander's platen. I kept a dish tub full of water nearby so I could dunk the tiles to clean them off and keep them wet. Try not to get water into the cooling slots, but the sander will get wet. While that caused no problems, older, wiser me would connect it to a GFCI. Cloth backed sanding belts stand up fine to getting saturated with water...at least long enough to do the job.

A:  Hello, the grit used on tile depends on the desired outcome. You can use a 50/80 Grit to shape and remove material then work up in grit to smooth out the finish.

A:  They are incredibly tough and routinely sanded through nails in my deck. I did not try sanding concrete but expect they would perform well on concrete surfaces.

A:  Not made for concrete use. Would most likely work for a very small job but diamond grinders and made to level concrete. If your not a professional buy a cheap angle grinder and a disc or rent the right tool for the job.

A:  Yes. I used the belts when I preped my workshop floor after filling in numberous joint lines & cracks. A lot of dust ( I suggest a fan blowing away from you and wearing a mask) and the belts don't last long. But they worked fine.
