A:  Thank you for your interest in Danco products. The chemical is Styrene. Proposition 65 is a mandated warning for all products that are sold in California. Nowhere are we stating that these products are not safe or that these products possess any health concerns, but are simply providing a warning to comply with the California state regulations. Styrene is commonly used among a wide variety of consumer products used every day that are made of plastics and rubber. Consumer products containing styrene include: packaging materials, insulation for electrical uses (i.e., wiring and appliances), insulation for homes and other buildings, fiberglass, plastic pipes, automobile parts and drinking cups and other "food-use" items. A:  The baskets are plastic, likely polyethylene. Any chemical associated with such plastics that might cause cancer are enough to get a Prop 65 warning. I doubt that using or handling this product will result in an increase in the probability of getting any form of cancer but I am not a toxicologist.
