Q:How does this make a water tight seal with the stub? is there an internal o ring (or two) + a simple set screw? Is the ID .625"(OD of 1/2 copper tubing)?

Q:What is the minimum length required for the pipe extending from the wall? Will it still seat with the set screw if the existing pipe is threaded?

A: Thank for inquiring about a Danco product. The stub out nipple has to be 2"-3" from the wall. You will need to replace your threaded nipple with a slip on nipple.

A: You cut the pipe so the threading will be gone. Minimum distance is like... 2” I think they said but it’s probably fine with 1.5”

A: Not that it wasn't the right size. Are attempting to screw it on without force some kind of product was coming off the threads, therefore indicating it was used before and not on its original packaging.
