Q:HELP! Is there a way to install this Lift without emptying our spa? It doesn't say that it needs to be empty in the description online!!! Sooooo, our spa is, of course, filled and we're not really wanting to empty it if at all possible!

A:  It stands to reason that if you intend to slide this product under your tub, it has to be emptied. Unless your Superman. Mine? 255gal x 8 lbs/gal=2,040 lbs. That's a ton.

A:  It has to slide under the spa so unless you have a crane or superhuman strength, yes you will need to drain it first. But then you'll have fresh clean water!

A:  I recently purchased a Hot tub or spa and had installed and filled. To assist in removing the cover that gets heavy with use I purchased this Spa Cover lift and attempted to install it. It was necessary to empty about three fourths of the water to be able to get the base plater under the hot tub. The lift works great. It takes about 36 inches of clearance to remove the cover with this lift. I like it because there is very little connections to the hot tub.

A:  We have installed the plate under the spa when full. Now mine is around 500 gallons. You have to work at it to get it under, a little on the left and then a little on the right and so on until it is under as far as you want it. I have paver stones under and it still works.

A:  Another description I read, possibly at a different site, said this needed to go into place before the tub was filled.

A:  No. The "wings" flip up and so need the length of half the hot tub cover's space to work.

A:  It takes at least 36 inches of clearance to lift the spa cover with this cover lift.

A:  The arms that hold the spa cover are adjustable so I think it would work but would recommend calling the manufacturer to be sure. They are very helpful.
