Q:Can I use a glass block window on an exterior wall in a walk-in shower? Tempered glass?
by|Feb 5, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Glass blocks are not tempered.
In general, building code is satisfied if the bottom of the window is 5 feet above the shower base. Please refer to your local government department regarding the acceptance of the window for your use case if you are concerned with meeting code requirements. Some cities and states have regulations that specifically deal with glass block windows in showers that allow them to be installed below the typical 5 feet rule of thumb.

Q:I purchased a vented glass block window. 21.25" x 46.5" x 3.125". It was delivered in two pieces. My plan was to build a frame first, using your perimeter channel strips. and then install into a wood wall. Is that possible/recommended?

1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: The recommended use for perimeter channel is to screw it down to your wood opening and then use glass block silicone to secure the window into the channel. The installation guide PDF has further instructions on installing a glass block window into a wood opening.

Q:The opening is 33in wide by 22in H. Can I use a window that is 32.75 x 21.25 or do I need to scale down to 31x21.25? I hate to have a full inch on each side if I don?t need to.
by|Oct 1, 2021
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: We would suggest scaling down to the 31 x 21.25 window. The 32.75 x 21.25 could be installed in a 33 inch wide opening if the opening is framed by wood and perfectly square. Even with these conditions the window would be a very tight fit. A masonry opening of 33 inches would for sure require the 31 inch wide window because a 32.75 inch wide window in a 33 inch opening would not allow enough mortar between the window and opening to securely bond the two together.
