A:  Had mine for one year left outside and no signs of rust so far used it a lot

A:  Purchased in Southeast Texas so I shall know in a few years just got it a week or so ago now. However this is made very similar to my last grill as all the steel parts are lined with porcelain and as long as the surfaces remain free of scratching or cracking down to the bare metal I think should be ok. The outside I cannot say but I would think that as long as you give the exposed metal a little oil type care you should be fine. Treat this as you would any other outdoor metal item you want to last.

A:  I'm in Texas and just bought mine off the floor and noticed rust pretty much everywhere.

A:  The cart is the only portion that has ever been a problem with the older design (not with the stand); this one is likely to be far more resistant to that damage. My previous one (same kettle) was still fine internally after five years, but I replaced it as the cart was rusting badly.

A:  I contacted the company directly, spoke with a real live person and had a replacement in hand in a couple days. They even included additional mounting hardware. Eastern Standard Time.

A:  Go to www.chargriller.com and use the "Search" feature. Search for "Outer Grate" You'll want the one that is $24.99. If you need the smaller round one (the insert), search for "Inner Grate". It's about $8.00. They ship very quickly. We always keep an extra of each around because these will break if you drop them and we seem to drop them at the WORST times. Good luck.

Q:I have one of the older models. In two years the ring around the bottom pan was rusting out. The Chrome Swivel Grill accessory was a nice accessory thought but didn't last a good grill year before the metal and welds failed because of inferior material . Neither did the Pan hanger rods. The Bottom for sure needs High Temp Steel for t hat pan assembly. So before I spend 3 bills for another, I would like to know if any of these issues have addressed with this model. BTW, other than the cost cutting, this baby does honor "Q" quite admirably.

A:  The answer about a 5 year warranty is not true as the warranty on bottom ash pan says specifically it is only covered for 1 year,... NOT under the 5 year warranty.

A:  The new one offers 5 years on rust through. I am in N.E. and the winters destroy grills. I started fogging the cart hardware to try to preserve it. I also coat the grill in oil after it cools down to keep it conditioned and ready. I would give up the cast heat retention for a stainless option any day.

A:  I'm not sure how old my model is but I have had it at least 2 1/2 years. I keep it covered with the cover that fits it properly and I cleaned it out after use as the ashes tend to cause acid which deteriorates the metal when wet. I'm not saying mine is in new condition, but it is in excellent condition and does Q very well.

A:  They have NOT. If anything, this one is worse than the older model. Brand new out of the box, first problem was that they'd packed incorrect parts to assemble the cart. That's fun, huh? Next, the bottom pan does not sit snugly enough to make a seal, so temperature control will be impossible. We shimmed it up, and it works, but still don't think we should have had to do that on a new product. The temperature gauge is a joke. Don't even try to rely on it. The one on ours is almost 200 degrees off. Which could be worked with if it were consistently off by that amount. They've clearly done some cost cutting measures in manufacturing which are seriously affecting the quality. We loved our old one. We flip this one off every time we walk by it....

A:  Good afternoon. The grill can not be removed from the cart as it is screwed into place during assembly.

                                            by|May 4, 2023

A:  Lucky you if you got a cart you could actually assemble!!! Ours came with incorrect parts, so we couldn't. However, to answer your questions, it can be used separately from the cart. We quickly built a table and cut a hole in it to fit the smoker/grill in it. Works perfectly, though you do have to shim the bottom part up so that it sits snugly. Otherwise, there's no seal and you can't control the temperature. That's an issue whether in the cart or on something else. Good luck.

A:  Mine had no comparison at all. I did buy the Green Egg after my Char-griller failed from 3 yrs use. Rusted!

                                                    by|May 4, 2023

A:  Same concept, different material and a lot less money. The Egg is ceramic. It thus won't / can't rust out. The cart can, but the Egg will not. This eventually might. However, you can buy at least two and maybe three of these for the price of one Egg, so..... It is quite capable of producing the same results as an Egg; I've had mine (the "wing" version) running right around 225F all day long to smoke "low and slow" without any difficulty at all, and it produces the exact sort of results you'd expect. Like all kettles you have to get the airflow and temperature dialed in and if you let it get away from you (too hot) it can be very hard to cool it back down without killing the fire. I recommend a wireless remote thermometer with both a grill and food readout so you can pay attention to temperature for low-n-slow use from inside.

A:  seems to be similar in what goes into it. I can promise I wouldn't spend the bigger dollars on the green egg for what this grill is capable of doing. this grill will pay for itself in how little of charcoal it uses! everything I have cooked or smoked on this unit has turned out amazing! hope you buy one!!

A:  The Akorn Kamado is made of steel with an fiberglass insulation blanket on the inside. It is lighter because it is made of steel instead of ceramic. The Akorn Kamado works the same but does have a ash pan at the bottom that can be dumped after use. It is also less expensive. Thank you.

A:  As far as the quality of the food - I doubt you could tell the difference. As far as 'quality' of a product, I'd say the BGE is probably better, but not 4-times better (pricewise). I work with guys who have the BGE and they run into the same issues I do on my Akorn... (ie: temp control ) But once you understand how it 'behaves' then you are off and running, I suspect the same learning curve on a BGE is about the same. Bottom line, given $1,200 to spend anyway I want, I'd buy the Akorn and pocket the change.
