A:  The grates will need to be seasoned every few months.

            by|May 5, 2023

A:  I used a light application of olive oil on the finish before using it for the first time. The powder coating finish will deteriorate over time if the grill is left exposed to the sun and weather. I invested in a cover. The food grates also need to have a light coating of oil after each use to deter rust.

              by|May 5, 2023

A:  After each use I take the grills and wash them, lift out the charcoal bed and clean out the ash.

                by|May 5, 2023

A:  Good afternoon. The grates do need to be seasoned at least once every few months and oiled after every use. The seasoning process is as follows. Before cooking or seasoning Cast Iron Grates, you may or may not heat the grates at 200° to melt the protective oil coating, if one exists, because the coating is not harmful and the grates can be seasoned over the coating. • When seasoned properly, cast iron will not stick and cleans easily. • To season, coat all surfaces with vegetable oil (bacon or bacon drippings preferred) and place grates in grill at 300° for 2 hours. Recoat and return to grill at 200° for 1hr. • Once seasoned, grates cook well and improve with age. After seasoning, grates may have a waxy, yellow finish, but with use, they will become black and flavor enhanced. • Due to improper care, grates lose their seasoning and rust. If so, brush & re-season. CLEANUP: • Remove excess food with wire brush. Lightly coat with vegetable oil. DO NOT put in dish washer, as it will remove the seasoning.

A:  No; it would be dangerous. You would have to remove the cooking grills (which are not adjustable) in order to get at the grill the coals sit on.

A:  To dump the ashes, you have to take the grates out. Pull out the charcoal grates and dump it. It's a pain.

A:  I believe you have Model 2222. That model comes with an easy dump ashpan. After the coals are cool, simply spill out and follow with water to ensure the coals are put out. You can spray the ashpan off to clean it out completely, but I would recommend drying thoroughly to keep from rusting. A good coating of oil helps too.

A:  This is the best pit I have for removing the ash quickly and easy. The base inside the pit has a half-moon stainless steel unit that has a grill welded the entire length so when the pit cools you can lift this ash unit out of the pit and dump the ashes, I use the grill as a Smoker by putting a large water pan of water on one end and put the coals and hickory on the other. I have smoked several large pork roast 8 to 9 lbs. for 5+ hours and it made very good very tender meat. Very large and inexpensive pit. Best, Joe
