A:  The unit has knock outs on the back at the wall, you would need to remove the unit and knock out the matching metal to fit your exhaust duct work. If the house does not have the ductwork already in place then you must add it or leave the unit as is. All of these range hoods are really useless, they either spray the smoke, filled with oil, in your face and all over the kitchen or they make a vain attempt to fan it through the tube or duct up through your attic and outside. Now I ask you, do you think that little fan is going to send oil filled smoke up that high and outside? I don't, it may send it up a foot or so but then it's coming right back down into the unit and usually drip out through the screen!

A:  The hood comes with a rectangle vent and a round vent. That won't be enough. You will have to add extension vent parts depending on the length of space between your hood and the outside. To be sure, you either have an opening to your outside wall or you are going to make one. Otherwise, The ventless install brings the air up through the vent hood and it passes out through the front of your hood. The air does pass through a screen filter to catch greasy air/smoke. Back to your question. I believe you can get the additional vent parts from a Home Depot store. AND, you can find and order parts online from the Home Depot website. I had to order an extension for the vent to make it longer and the local Home Depot store did not have it, but I was able to find the part online and had it shipped to my house

A:  The F40000-Series range hood is convertible, as you already know. To make it a VENTED hood, you will first need to decide if you are going to use the 7" round vertical ducting option, or the 3-1/4" x 10" vertical OR horizontal ducting option. The correct damper/duct connector for either one is available, and our Customer Serivce Department can assist you with that. You will need to front louver cover (part S99091027). You will have to purchase locally the correct type of ducting, and then a roof or wall cap. BEFORE you begin the project, you may want to call our Customer Service so they can advise you about the parts. We would encourage you to read the installation instructions as www.broan.com as well. Give us a call. we will be happy to assist. Customer Service is available at 1-888-336-3948 between 7:30 AM and 6:00 PM (CDT) Monday-Friday.

        Answer This Question

A:  Yes, model F402401 Under-Cabinet Range hood is designed to be hard wired. Optional Model HCK44 Cord Kit is sold separately and can be used to convert the wiring so it will plug into a wall outlet.

        by|Dec 30, 2020

          A:  Yes

          by|Jul 13, 2021

A:  No. It's made to be hard wired. It would not be safe to do that.

            by|Dec 30, 2020

A:  I believe you can. Hard wire is taking the electric wires from the wall and connecting it to the wires built into the hood. To have a plug in, I believe you would need a plug in cord with the other end having the wires showing which would be similar appearance as the wire coming out of your wall. When you connect the plug in cord (or wall wire cord) be sure to use wire nuts. I think it's the yellow nuts, which is a tad bit larger than the orange nuts that come with the hood.

A:  Range Hoods are categorized in standard appliance sizes of 24", 30",42" etc. But the actual exact width of the hood measures 29.875" so Home Depot is listing both on their website.

A:  I think it's only that length or longer. It comes with punch through holes to adjust where your ducts are. it's a small difference so I don't think it would be an issue.

A:  The F40000-Series range hood is only available as a manually operated unit. It is ADA compliant when used with appropriately mounted controls installed at 15” to 48” above the floor and control access should not require reaching over a cooking appliance. Unfortunately we do not offer a remote control.

A:  No, it does not come with a standard AC plug to plug into an outlet. You have to wire it in. I think it came with wire nuts. It has been a few years. It was not difficult to wire in.

A:  This range hood is designed to be hardwired. However, it can be converted to a plug in version. You would need to purchase the optional cord kit, model SHCK44, separately.
