A: Yes, I use it to rake pine needles. It works better on long needles and big leaves. Once you build up a matte of needles and/or big leaves, it rakes about everything. I lift the tines up every so often to leave a pile. Hold the tines up until you get completely past the pile. I come back later towing a wagon and load the piles into the wagon. Makes raking a big yard much easier. The tines also pull up a lot of weeds or expose their roots, and they leave a nice groomed look to your yard. Rake the hard to get areas first including backing into some corners. Pick up the piles, and then rake in straight passes to leave a professional finish.

A: Thank you for your question. Yes, the two rows of flexible tine tips will comb the lawn, extracting thatch and depositing it on the surface where it can be mulched by the mower blades or removed using a sweeper or lawn vacuum.

Q:Is it hard to assemble? Hard to adjust? I've seen tow behinds that look like they have a handle to raise and lower the height of the tines. Do these require manual adjusting?

A: Yes, it can be if your not mechanically incline, lots of parts. As far as adjustment, mine was missing a spring for one wheel so I fixed the location. Really doesn't have an issue with it's purpose.

A: Thank you for your interest in our product. The DT-480BH does have great step by step instructions for assembly. The tools required for assembly are 1/2" wrench (2), medium size adjustable wrenches or adjustable wrench and set of open wrenches and a pair of pliers. It does require a manual height adjustment. The manual will also included how to do this. The link below will take you directly to the manual. https://brinly.com/wp-content/uploads/manuals/DT_48BH.pdf.

Q:Can a dethatcher be used on lawns with inground sprinklers?
by|May 4, 2019

Answer This Question
A: My sprinklers are all on the perimeter of my yard. I adjust the tines to 1 inch over the sprinklers and use 2 inches where there are no sprinklers. I have not damaged or pulled up any sprinklers.
by|May 11, 2019
A: Yes-I have no problem using it with my sprinkler system.
by|May 6, 2019
A: Yes
by|May 7, 2019
A: I use mine on the lawn with sprinklers in the corners and along the outside edge. To do this, I shorten the depth of the tines to 1 inch for a pass on the perimeter. Then, I change the depth to 2 1/2 inch for the rest of the passes. I know some people who use 2 1/2 inches everywhere. I prefer to be more careful not to damage or pull up a sprinkler by using one inch.
by|May 10, 2019
A: I wouldn't chance it!
by|May 7, 2019
A: The dethatcher tines tend to get clogged with debris buildup (if you have a larger lawn, we have .50 acre). When the tines build up with debris, the job it does decreases dramatically. Constant cleaning required, and redoing of areas require.

Answer This Question
A: I have a John Deere tractor but not a Zero Turn tractor so I don't know the answer. What I do know is that the unit is too low for the hitch plate and I had to use a long bolt to raise the level to where it could be used properly.

A: I'm not sure but they do make a Dethatcher for a zero turn model.

A: Do you have any type of hitch on the rear of the mower? If it’s a ball hitch, you can remove it. I’m not familiar with Troy Built mowers. But I love this tool....and so do my neighbors who have used it.

A: Yes i Have a husqvarna zero turn and works great
by|May 5, 2023
A: I would think the Troy built would have a tow hole so it should. Just check the back of the machine and get yourself a lynch pin and ring and you should be good to go. I use it on my Simplicity conquest with no problem. Go slow so it doesn't bounce too much.
by|May 5, 2023
A: Yes, if it's got that little tow mount, it'll work (attach), I tow mine with a Poulon, Huskavanaannnaaaaa *sp* and my troy bilt

A: If your tractor has a hole in the back to put a pin thru to connect it then yup. Fits on my Husqvarna tractor with 54 inch deck.
