Q:To piggyback this valve on an existing BrassCraft shut-off valve that no longer shuts off, can the 3/8 FIP inlet of this valve connect properly to the the 3/8 OD compression outlet on the old one? Both are 3/8 inch, but is the thread on the FIP inlet compatible with the thread on the male compression outlet?

A:  Hi James, Thank you for your question. If your original installed shut off valve is has reached it's useful life, we recommend replacing the entire shut off with a new one. We really would require more information to determine what your application is. Please contact our Customer Support Team at 877-277-7755 and reference this review.

A:  No, one is 3/8" national pipe thread and the other is a 3/8" compression fitting for tubing or a flexible hose. They are quite different.

Q:Is the 3/8 in. compression outlet compatible with the standard flexible connector to toilet tank (which has a 3/8 female inlet)? I am trying to find the right shut-off valve to piggyback on top of the old toilet shut-off valve which was soldered on. Also, is the 3/8 in. FIP inlet on this compatible with the old shut-off valve outlet (which is 3/8 male)?

A:  Yes, the fitting is compatible with the standard flexible connector line. If your line is not a metal one, may I suggest you consider getting a metal line when you pick up the shut off valve. When it comes to water pipes and fittings, you cannot be too careful.

Q:Can this be used as a piggyback on top of the existing one? I am not able to close it, and don’t want to mess with removing it. Thanks

A:  I believe you are going to find that the ends are not compatible in size. IF they were, stacking them instead of removing the old one is not an issue. Not sure why you don't want to remove the old one though. If it won't turn off now, then you still have to turn off the main water valve to add another shutoff. With half of the process already complete, spend two more minutes to unscrew the old shutoff, use nylon plumbing tape on the pipe threads, and screw the new fitting onto the pipe as it should be. You will feel much better about the project afterwards.

A:  The one side is a femail threaded connection. The other is a pressure fitting which I didn't use. I was able to attach the the flexible supplie line to the Mail theded connection under the.pressue fitting. So if you goi from mail to femail threaded or mail to pressure fitting you'll be fine. I would however,, suggest that you remove the old valve. The more connections you have: the more opportunity you have for leaks or blockages.

A:  Turn off the main water supply to the line (usually the main for the property. Remove the old one using a couple of wrenches (plumber's, adjustable, mechanic, etc.)--one to hold the shut off valve to loosen it and one to hold the pip which the valve is attached to. After removal, wire brush the threads from the pipe clean to remove old, residual tape/sealant, and reapply new teflon pluming/pipe tape. Then install the new one.
