Answer This Question

A:  I would say yes. Both the propane cylinder and map/pro cylider have a CAG 600 connection. The extension hose can be used on both cylinders. Since the ts8000 fits on a CAG 600 connection, should be compatible with this extension hose. Looking at the Home Depot website, the ts8000 torch, map/PRO cylinder, and this extension hose are commonly bought together.

Q:Is there a version of this, or a simple tank adapter, available to connect a Bernzomatic hand held torch that normally screws onto a 1 lb bottle, to a 20 lb propane cylinder?

    Answer This Question

A:  To Bernzomatic: Your reply to this question contradicts your responses here to similar questions. I don't see a way to connect this hose to a 20 lb tank... please explain.

    by|Jul 10, 2020

A:  Home Depot online sells a hose with connectors that can be used with a 20lb propane tank on one end and a torch, that typically attaches directly to a 1lb propane cylinder, on the other end. It is called a 1lb to 20lb propane adaptor hose converter.

Q:if you can find the sweet spot and mark the dial it works out alright. otherwise you will blow the flame out 90% of the time with the oxygen. this extension hose will be perfectly fine if you're just adding a torch to the end

A:  Yes, this extension helps eliminate blowing out the flame when tilting.

A:  The torch attachment is equipped with its own dial, so be careful to observe the gas in the line. Opening the valve at the tank first in order to light, and using the valve at the torch primarily to govern the flame. I didn't necessarily need to open the tank all the way, just a bit further than I wanted at the torch.

Q:Is it necessary to test the ends of the hose for leaks once it's installed? If so, how do I test for leaks?

              Answer This Question

A:  New hose connections should always be tested for leaks. The test is conducted using a solution of soap in water, dish soap will work. Put the soap solution in a spray bottle and spray it on the hose connection ( with the gas turned on ) and look for bubbles at the connection. There must be no active bubbles forming, very small bubbles that do not inflate are not due to a leak, they are formed from the spraying action. If active bubbles are present, turn off the gas and tighten the hose fitting, then repeat the bubble test. If it fails a second time, turn off the gas and return the equipment for exchange and try again.

              by|Aug 31, 2019

A:  You can safely leak test end to end with a water based bubble solution, such as mixing any brand of dish washing liquid in 2 or 3 parts water, or use the bubble solutions that kids play with. Any appliance parts store, and some hardware stores will have a small bottle of leak detecting solution which typically includes an applicator that makes this task easier. Beyond creating bubbles at the source of a leak, neither Propane or MAPP Gas is reactive to this. DO NOT, EVER, use any sort of flame based detection methods to detect flammable substances.

                by|Jul 10, 2020

A:  You can spray soap water to all joints to test for leaks. You will see bubbles if there is a leak.

A:  The hose should really be off the tank when not in use, but to check for any 'unlikely' leaks, just put a little dawn dish soap where threads meet threads. The fittings will accept a wrench, but it's usually not necessary to "wrench it tight".. hand tighten, if it leaks, just barely tighten it with wrenches.

A:  It really depends on what you're putting on the business end of the extension. If the torch is high quality it should be easy to adjust. I think the valve on the extension is mostly to turn it on and off not for minor adjustments.

A:  GENERALLY YOU WOULD TURN THE TANK CONNECTION ON FULL AND USE THE TORCH NOZZLE ADJUSTMENT TO ADJUST THE FLOW. THE VALVE IS NOT A FINE ADJUSTMENT DVICE ON THIS END.

A:  Yes, true for me. If using the adjustment knob on this hose, pretty imprecise and takes fiddling. However, I've used this hose with a TS8000 with MAP/Pro, and my old 370A (now UL2317) general purpose head with propane, both of which come with their own adjustment knobs and these work well and quick to adjust flame.

A:  Unless something has changed over the last 15 years, MAPP gas should only be used with all valves wide open, lower settings can damage your torch. This occurs because at lower pressures, MAPP gas will combust further down inside the torch head, in an area where the resulting excess heat causes damage. With correct pressure (wide open valves) the combustion takes place further out and doesn't heat the internal parts of the tip up to these damaging temperatures. Never heard of this causing a significant personal hazard, but it can ruin your torch fairly quickly. Use propane instead of MAPP gas if you want a lower and adjustable amount of heat. This damage might also happen if propane is used with swirl type tips, but I think the lower temperature of burning propane makes it unlikely, and I recall this only applying to MAPP gas. Ask the manufacturer for written confirmation before following any privately offered advice, including mine.

A:  I attached a torch to the end of the hose. I fully opened the valve at the bottle then controlled the torch flame with the valve at the torch. Flow control no worse than if torch was connected directly to bottle.

A:  No, wrong threads. The Oxygen tanks have a left hand thread for safety reasons so as to not mixing them up with the right hand threads of the propane or acetylene tanks.

A:  The female end of this hose will fit any 1lb propane or map gas tank, and the male end is the same as what you find on any of those 1lb bottles. Consequently it could also be just used as extension hose to connect a 1lb tank to ANY device that accepts a 1lb tank.

A:  Since the TS3500KC Multi-Use Torch Kit uses the standard propane tank, it should work nicely with the WH0159 Universal Torch Extension Hose. Additionally, it will be easier to use since the torch head will not be directly attached to the tank.

A:  It should work fine. Hose is basically an extension with a female connector on one end and a male connector on the other which matches the male fitting on the tank. I have used for similar uses where normally the tank would be inverted and of course this causes the flame to go out. With the hose the tank can remain vertical while the torch head can be manipulated in any direction.
