    A:  I would not recommend this particular rope for use in tug of war. It would seem better to use a slightly larger rope size for that application, such as 1-1/4". In addition, Manila rope is a natural fiber that has many small, very sharp fibers that easily penetrate the skin and break off. Unless you wear gloves when handling Manila rope, you will have some painful encounters lasting for 1-2 days. Use a synthetic version of Manila rope for tug of war applications. It may cost a little more, but you will avoid a lot of pain!

      A:  Probably not ideal, but if you do I would highly recommend using gloves. The rope is very coarse and mine smelled very strongly of kerosene when I got it.

        Q:I recently purchased the 1/2 inch x 600 rope and it has a very, very strong chemical smell. I purchased this rope to make a cat tower and I'm scared this chemical smell will harm my animals. I need to know what was put on this rope or what it was treated with to smell so bad. my whole garage smells like chemicals from this rope.

        A:  The Manila rope is manufactured with industrial oils as part of the manufacturing process. We do not recommend this for pets. This rope is mainly used for industrial and commercial purposes.

          Q:I’m trying to get the exact overall width of the rope for my application. I understand it states 1” but sometimes these ropes are slightly larger or smaller.

                Q:I just received my rope in and opened the box...the smell of gas/oil about knocked me off me feet!! Is this normal?? I was planning on using it indoors!!

                A:  These ropes are made from natural manila - however the manufacturing process does use oil that you might smell, but this odor will fade with time.

                  Q:I want to use this rope for molding. I have seen it said, " contains oil in the manufacturing process". I am concerned that the oil will bleed onto my walls. Should I be concerned?

                  A:  The rope is manufactured with oil, so we could not assure you that it wouldn't bleed onto your walls. Your best bet would be to find a rope that is not manufactured with oil.
