A: Yes, the garnet media could be used to blast the exterior of a car, but for that task a more course and less expensive media might be preferable. I consider this media better suited for use in a closed system, such as a blast cabinet. The 80 grit Garnet is excellent for cleaning small parts in preparation for painting or plating. It is course enough to clean away rust or paint quickly, but yet leaves a relatively smooth surface.

A: I use the 80 grit media to blast aluminum to prepare it for painting. The surface looks great after I'm done and the painted surface looks perfect. I flows great through my sand blaster and last a good long time.

A: If you mean re-useable in regard to how many times you can use the same media to grit blast..the answer is yes. I use mine in an 80 psi table top cabinet made by Black Bull. I do small items like model train cars, tanks etc. You might have to replenish the supply now and then due to loss but it does not have to be dumped and replenished every time you use it. I use about 10 pounds each time and I get several uses out of it.

A: Yes, you can re-use it. If it gets on the floor it can be very slippery to walk on . So be careful.

Q:using a 150 lb capacity blaster and 100 psi. how long would it take to descale steel plates 4foot by 8 foot. parts are painted with medium rust?

Answer This Question
A: Depends on what you mean by "medium rust" and how tough and thick is the paint . In my experience the best way to proceed is to go over the panel with 80 grit sander to knock off the scales, then sand blast it. If there are no rust pits the whole process will take about 1or 2 hr assuming the paint is not too thick.

A: I have not blasted anything that big but,,,,,,I run my cabinet at 80 psi and can remove mill scale on a 1' x 2' piece of steel in about 3 minutes.

Q:Garnet media is supposedly a very low dust media. Why so many negative reports of this product being excessively dusty? Is it a mixture of garnet and some other material?

A: About 14" in diameter x 18" in height. There are also 2 bags that hold the media inside the mini-barrel. One is plastic (like zip-lock material) to keep out moisture and another very strong mesh like bag outside the plastic. Amount of material is 50 lbs.
