Q:Can this be used on 20 year old composite decking?

Answer This Question
A: Hi Terry - Thanks for your question. This product is a great option for composite decking. For long-lasting results, we recommend cleaning the surface with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner, letting it dry completely, then applying 2 coats of solid stain directly to the surface for a uniform finish. Best - Sara

A: I was not familiar with that product Behr Deckover -- but I'm glad I learned about it from your question. I used this Behr solid stain over a different brand of stain that really didn't offer anywhere near as much protection, and I'm very happy with how it has worn for over a year. I might buy some of this deckover paint also as we have an older deck, already was showing age when we bought the house - the other brand wasn't as good for protecting from sun nor rain. Just this solid BEHR covered the most visible signs of age, but, whatever I can do to extend the life and usability of our deck, I figure is worth trying - looks like it would work and this solid color stain was way easier to get good coverage than the last brand I used (the old owners left several cans of a different brand which I'm glad I changed from to BEHR).

A: Hi Grizz. Thanks for writing in with your question. Typically thinning our DeckPlus Solid Color Waterproofing Wood Stain shouldn't be needed when sprayed on using an airless sprayer with a 60 mesh filter and a 0.015-0.019 tip. However, it can be thinned with up to 8 ounces of water per gallon if needed. Have a nice day! -Joni
