A: Hi there, thanks for the question. For the Semi-Transparent Stain, you don't have to completely remove the stain before reapplying a new coat. But, since the stain is semi-transparent if the existing wood isn't uniform in color you would be able to see the differences after recoating with the semi-transparent stain. To avoid this, you can apply a solid-color stain instead. Have a great day! -Ronald

A: Hi DMan, thank you for writing in. I recommend using our All-In-One Wood Cleaner No 63, then sanding after the surface is completely dry. This will ensure all foreign debris has been removed from the surface and any surface wood fibers (or "fuzz") have been properly dealt with before staining. -Michael

Answer This Question
A: Hi Kathy. Thank you for your question. It’s not recommended to add more colorant to a can that’s already tinted, as it may cause it to overfill and it’s difficult to replicate that color again for future cans. If you want to use a different color, I recommend having a new can tinted to the new color you want. Have a nice day! -Joni

A: Hi TGR74, thank you for your question. Our DeckPlus Semi-Transparent Stain is not a sealer. However, the 100% acrylic formula will seal out water and block the sun's harmful UV rays. The stain should be applied to unsealed exterior wood surfaces after cleaning with the All-In-One Wood Cleaner and allowing the wood to dry. Good luck with your project! -Giovanna

Q:I have a pergola that sustained some damage with the previous owners. I had to fix and repair some cracks with epoxy, so a true stain will not look right. Can this be applied over primer like one would do with a regular exterior paint?

Answer This Question
A: Hi DIYMom - Thank you for your question. Our solid stain can be applied over a primed surface. Because our solid stain is film-forming (like a regular exterior paint), it will completely cover the surface for a uniform finish. Best - Sara

Q:Can this be used with the paint sprayers that Home Depot rents? The Tool Rental staff was concerned that if this contained petrolium it could damage the seals. I have a larger deck and fence and would rather use the semi transparent stuff.
