If that is the case, I recommend using our Solid Color Waterproofing Stain & Sealer, which can also be applied over an oil-based stain. A: Hi Patt, thank you for your question. The surface should sound, clean, and dry before staining. Sanding may be needed to remove loose wood fibers, or other weathered coatings on the surface.
