Q:Can they be cut with an oscillating saw with a metal cutting blade and look finished?
by|Mar 9, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  A chop saw (motorized miter saw) is recommended for straight cuts. A jig saw or scroll saw is recommended for non-straight cuts. For circular cuts, a hole saw works well. See Aspect Tile Installation Guide for additional information. All cutting blades should be carbide-tipped or high-speed steel, and made for cutting nonferrous metal. When cutting is complete, use a fine-grit sandpaper or a small metal file to debur the cut edges. Take the cut tile to the work space and place it in its intended location and make sure it fits properly. If you have any additional questions please feel free to reach out to us at 800.434.3750. Q:I would like to mount these vertically above my cooktop all the way to the ceiling behind the exhaust fan. They would butt up against standard wall tiles to the left and right. Will they be too thin and be sunken in compared to standard wall tiles?

                  Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your great questions regarding our Long Grain Metal Decorative Tile Backsplash! We do not recommend using our products in an outdoor environment. Areas that are not temperature controlled and exposed to outdoor constant UV exposure could cause the tiles or adhesive to fail. If you have any additional installation questions please feel free to reach out to our customer care team at 800.434.3750. Thank you!

                    Answer This Question

A:  Yes. The tiles are self-adhesive and designed to be used as the back splash in bathrooms and kitchens. I did not trust the company-applied adhesive to stand up to constant exposure to water and humidity. I applied a multi-purpose cement to the adhesive pad on each tile. Since the cement requires eight hours to set and I had better things to do than hold the tiles in place for that long, I also applied a super glue at eight spots on the tiles. The super glue stuck them to the wall immediately and the cement made a permanent, water tight seal. It sounds time consuming, but the original tiles are still up after five years. The should definitely work for a ceiling that is not textured or popcorn.

A:  Definitely. The backing is super strong/sticky. When I had to take off a piece to adjust it it actually took the paint off the wall.

A:  Probably but I would highly recommend caulking or gluing them to the ceiling. I have them on a horizontal wall and some have come loose.

A:  I don’t see why not, it’s adhesive so as long as it’s a dry clean surface you shouldn’t have any issues.

A:  Yes. As long as the surface is smooth and prepared properly. These tiles adhere very well.

A:  Thank you for your great question! We would not recommend using the Long Grain Metal Decorative Tile Backsplash in Brushed Stainless be used on a ceiling installation. The weight of the tiles hanging upon the adhesive may cause the adhesive to fail and result in the tiles falling. Even with with using supplemental adhesive, like the PL Premium by Loctite, we couldn't warranty success of this type of installation. If you have any additional questions please feel free to reach out to our customer care team at 800.434.3750. Thank you!

A:  Preparing the substrate should be the issue, not the tiles, as I see it. The tiles have surprised my contractor with the superior adhesion, so sticking will not be the problem. It is the ceiling prep that would concern me. I would talk to the Home Depot folks in the paint department and get their advice.
