A:  Hello, Thank you for reaching out! Unfortunately, contrary to the other answer posted to this question, this configuration will not work. The post you have purchased is designed for one mailbox to be mounted parallel to the wooden mounting board. The wooden mounting board is cut to fit within the false bottom of certain mailboxes on the market; yours included. A false bottom means that there is a lip on the outer edge of the bottom of the mailbox, making it impossible to mount to anything that does not fit inside the lip. That being said, the spreader plate may easily mount to the post, but the false bottom will not allow the mailbox to be mounted to the spreader plate. In order to avoid this and make use of the spreader plate, some sort of spacer must be used to fill the false bottom, such as another piece of wood cut to fit this space. A:  The Spreader Plate is used to mount two mailboxes side-by-side over one central post, saving space, time, and money, but only if two mailboxes are needed. If you only need one box, order Architectural Mailboxes adapter plate 7540B for 4 x 4 wood post installation. Another option is a Pacifica Post is a 3″ round galvanized steel tube designed for in-ground mounting for one mailbox.
