A: Pure American. . . Here is AMES American Legacy Statement (from their website): "You’d think one of America’s oldest brands might care a thing or two about doing things right here in America, now wouldn’t you? And you’d be right. Although we’ve become a global company since our humble beginnings back in 1774, we are committed to manufacturing our tools in the USA. In addition, all of our distribution and customer service is handled by employees here in the country where this company was born. And that’s just the way it’s going to stay." The product is excellent - we wouldn't buy anything else.

A: Yes, this rake was designed for many uses one of which is to help spread gravel. The long tines are ideal for working the ground and the shorter tines are ideal for leveling after you have worked the gravel out of the dirt.
You mentioned that your dirt/gravel has been compacted over a few years, so you may want to break up the ground a little bit before raking to save yourself some fatigue.

A: Yes. We moved around about a cubic yard or more of 1 1/2 inch landscaping rock which we put on top of dirt and rock that was already all over our yard. It did a great job and we're super pleased with our results.

A: You can, but it will probably break. I used mine to pull up some old garden beds, spread some stone, and it's already broken. I bought it at the beginning of the season and it didn't even make it to fall before the lower mounting area splintered.

A: Yes you can; the short tines on the top ridge of the rake makes short work of gravel and dirt mixes. The reason we purchased this rake was just for a similar purpose and it has been used to rake rocks, gravel, spread dirt and general grass raking uses. You won't find any rake better than this one at any price.

A: The tines are aproximently 9 inches, it cannot be used instead of an aerator. If done correctly there is minimum to no damage to your grass.

A: Simple answer is YES.
by|May 5, 2023
A: The tines are 3.5 inches in length.
by|May 5, 2023
A: I would not use this rake to loosen yard soil; you would damage your lawn. If it were me, I'd use an aerator to loose the yard soil. I hope this helps you. Good luck.
by|May 5, 2023
A: Yes, with the shorter tines on one side you can use those to loosen soil while in the grass.

Q:Would this rake also be good to do light thatching on a very small section of grass. I used weed and feed on it several weeks ago and am just seeing more grass than weeds. The house was vacant for 2 years and mowed only when needed during that time though I have been trying to clear the dead cut grass out when I am feeling well enough.
Thanks

A: It isn't the ideal tool for thatching, but will pick some up. A thatch rake is the best tool for this job.

A: This rake should be fine for what you are looking to do
by|May 4, 2023
A: Absolutely, I have used it for such
by|May 4, 2023
A: Home Depot does sell a thatching rake which has tines that are very pointed. You could use the rake you are questioning but you may not get the same result because the tines on this rake are not like the thatching rake. You may want to compare them side by side to be absolutely sure.
I hope this helps you. Good luck.

A: I'd recommend a soft rake for small light thatching job. Coming down with the rake on an angle pulling to the right or left in fast short stokes will work. Pulling directly down and toward you like raking leaves does not accomplish anything.

A: I don't turn compost, however I don't see why not it wouldn't work well, it a heavy duty rake. So unless your planning on a commercial operation it should work out fine.

flexible like a leaf rake. I hope this helps you. Good luck.

A: This bow rake would work well turning compost. Another good tool for this job is a fork like item # 2826300.

A: The Ames Warranty is 15 years against manufacturer defects for anybody residential or commercial. Hope this helps!
by|May 4, 2023
A: It has a 15 year warranty, it does not specify home or commercial use. When I called with a warranty claim, they did not ask me how I use it (home or commercial) so I don't think they make a distinction or care.
I will tell you that in my experience it is not strong enough for commercial use. I recommend you get one with heavier duty tines and a high quality hardwood handle.

A: standard Home Depot, if you're unhappy just bring it back, they will always do the right thing. This has been my experience.
