A: I'm not sure why these are marketed with this measurement. Overall length from shovel tip to top of D-handle is 43". From the top of the step to the top of the D-handle is 32". From the top of the step to the bottom of the green D-handle (where it meets the wooden shaft) is 25".

A: RE: Previous answer that I provided was incorrect. However there is not a way to remove the post.
The handle is 24", and the shovel head is 12".
