A:  The condition of the soil and the amount of weight are the key factors to consider on the pull on your tractor's transmission. If the ground is extremely hard and dry, it is recommended the area be sprinkled or watered down for one or two hours prior to aerating. You can put extra weight on master platform tray but the amount would depend on which SmartLINK head you are using. To increase depth of point penetration with the Plug Aerator head, up to 140 lb of weight such as bags of sand or concrete blocks may be added to the tray. Always secure weight to the tray with ties or straps fastened to the front and rear of the tray. Fasten so that the ties cannot become entangled in rotating parts. When assembled to the platform the plug aerator has a 40-inch aeration path. A:  The smartlink plug aerator fits the smart link system. 45-0474 is the correct part number for the spike aerator. I would guess that 13" is the length from spike to spike on one unit.
