A: I installed it on the roof of my shed 4 years ago and it still runs fine. We get a lot of sunshine here so it runs a lot and does an ok job. But not so much on cloudy days.

A: I mounted this fan on a 8 x 6 ft shed about 3 years ago and have had no problems. The solar cells face directly south and receive sunlight year round. The fan runs whenever the sun is out and is very effective in removing the hot air. I originally bought 2 to mount on the shed bit the one fan does the job quite well. I am very satisfied with the effectiveness and performance.

A: Each fan lowers the temp during the Summer. The more sun the more it runs. I used 2 on a 600 sq ft roof and lowered attic temp from 160 to 130 peak temps. Also added 2 open vents on sides to help circulate air thru attic.

Q:Can this product be installed on a mostly flat roof that only slopes for drainage? 1920 Spanish bungalow with a square roof that grades down toward the east to one drainage hole, but comes from all sides. It has torched roll. It would be installed at a high point on the north side.

Well made, and is designed to remove attic air!
A+

A: Absolutely, but the solar panel needs the best angle towards the sun, I removed and tilted the solar panel to get the best angle, just diffused sunlight only runs the fan at 1/4-1/2 speed
by|Apr 20, 2021
A: Sure, as long as you seal it properly. Mine is still working after almost two years.

A: No.
Per the product specifications ((https://images.thdstatic.com/catalog/pdfImages/84/843d8544-9862-47ff-8929-894eb554a49a.pdf ) the minimum pitch is 3/12

Q:Where is the on and off switch??

Answer This Question
A: There is no power switch, as long as the sun is out the vent fan will operate and run.
by|Mar 31, 2021
A: There is none.
The fan runs when direct sun light is hitting the solar panel, otherwise it acts as a passive vent.

A: That's what I did. Purchased 2 and flipped 1 fan over to blow into "attic" area of the camper and the other blows out. My solution to the Florida high humidity issues in the ceiling.

Q:Do we need access to the attic to install this item?

Answer This Question
A: Well, if you can cut a hole into the roof without entering the attic, then yes. The vent slides underneath a section of shingles outside. Position it, seal it, and secure it down - all from the rooftop.
by|Sep 30, 2020
A: No you do not, just be careful not to cut into any of your roof rafters.
The installation instructions are available on the page on HomeDepot.com, here: https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/6a/6aa94525-a559-44fb-9647-046935f4a648.pdf

A: The entire unit installs from the roof. Personally, I started from inside the attic to determine where I could cut the hole without running into any rafters.
But, if you think you can somehow cut a hole in your roof without cutting into rafters - from the outside - without entering into your attic space; then no, you won't need to access your attic.

Q:Can you mount this vertically, on the side of a shed wall, instead of the roof? Is it ok if it gets rained on this way?

Answer This Question
A: I installed one vertically, but because the solar panel is made to be installed on a incline (I.e. roofline) I had to slightly modify the solar panel mounting to at least mirror the angle of a roof. Did not take much, flat stock piece of metal (aluminum is easy to work with and holds up to the weather), a drill and two longer screws or bolts (depending on how you secure the metal stock. Worked great.
Not sure about you rain question, I guess that will be determined in a few months from now.
by|Jul 17, 2021
A: No, this cannot be mounted vertically.
Our vents are made to be mounted on the roof deck only
by|Sep 8, 2020
A: Indeed, the biggest issue with vertical is getting the solar panel angle perfect to get maximum sunlight directly on the panel, it’s somewhat critical of how it’s angled, I had to angle the panel or it did not run very fast..

Answer This Question
A: I don't see why it couldn't, mine is mounted on a green house on polyethylene panels. Make sure you use the right type of attachment so it does not create a leak.
by|Aug 5, 2020
A: Maybe, but just like any other vent on a metal roof - you will have to do a good job of sealing it.
