Answer This Question
A: Yes, you just slide it over the outside casing and attach and tighten the straps.

A: As a follow-up to my previous answer. If you are installing the cover on the air conditioner that is not on the
ground floor (like an apartment building) and you can not reach the unit from the outside, then you would have to open the window to install the cover. Normally you would stand on the ground and cover the unit from the outside without having to open the window. A person can be confused from looking at the installation instructions in the second photo.

A: I have mine on through the wall a/c units, no problem, just run the belts sideways

A: Yes, the picture is misleading. I installed the cover in 2016 on my AC that was not removed from the window. The two rubber straps go around the AC parallel to the window, to hold the cover in place. I was on my fire escape when I did this. You will still need side panel insulation to avoid all drafts. Be sure and remove the cover and clean it, periodically. The manufacturer is very helpful and supportive if you have any questions, as I did.

A: It just goes on the outside, with the straps wrapping around it, on ac’s that have less depth than the cover I just fold it under to make it smaller and I also use a bungee cord to add to holding it in place. I hope this helps, I’m not sure what you refer to about opening the window, I don’t open the window at all

A: Yes, this cover will fit up to 14"D

A: Yes, it fits my a/c that has a depth of 13 inches.
by|Nov 20, 2018
A: yes it did on mine.
by|Nov 19, 2018
A: My a/c is also 11 inches. This cover is bigger than that. I have it and I use it but it is awkward to wrap because it is about 2 inches bigger than my unit. I comes with straps to try to individualize but it is still not ideal.
by|Nov 19, 2018
A: Yes it will fit.....my AC depth is 11.16” and I can actually fold over about 1 1/2” of extra length of the above AC cover.

A: It should be! The air conditioner that I have is a Maytag and dimensions of the unit on the inside of the window are 18 1/2 x 14 ~ I love the cover! I added some velcro strips to the side to make it extra snug around the outside of the unit. Very easy to customize it using velcro strips I picked up at Michael's craft store. I live in Florida so during the summer is does get some dark mildew staining but i just spray it with a product that has bleach in it and it comes right off. Still looks new and serves the purpose of covering it up from the outside. My window a/c unit air conditions my outdoor laundry/utility room in the summer. It's really a nice, heavy duty cover for what I wanted to achieve. The cover is actually a much lighter beige than what is being displayed and it blends in nicely with my exterior paint color.
Order it, if you don't like it, you can always return it to the store. Hope this was of help :)

A: I installed my ac through the wall, not a window. I also mounted two, heavy duty L brackets with a diagonal brace, (also from Home Depot, found near the gate hinges and pulls), on either side of Ac, mounted to the outside stucco on the vertical side of the brackets and to the Ac on the horizontal side. These brackets add a very good, sturdy mount and completely support the exterior weight of that part of Ac the sticks through the wall. I purchased the above Ac cover but had to cut and modify them slightly to work around the L brackets, but they work just fine. If you don't use exterior brackets as I did, then yes they would work with no modifications

A: AW,
This item is designed to fit air conditioners that measure 12 in. - 14 in. high and measure 18 in. - 21 in. wide and at least 14 in. deep. It does have an open bottom to allow for support brackets to remain installed. Since this product looks to be a little bit too small for your unit I would suggest you go with the next size up, the Medium Air Conditioner Exterior Cover; Model AC-512.
Best of luck on your search.

A: It adequately covered the air conditioner and I am satisfied with it.

Q:will the cover fit ok if you have a suport bracket under the a/c outside

A: Yes, it only covers the top, sides, and back so it will fit just fine.
by|May 5, 2023
A: Well, you will need to secure the cover with the separate strap which is included with the cover. The strap must wrapped around the a/c's body width like a belt, as close as possible to the window and the back edge of the cover. So it depends on the type of support bracket and your access to getting the strap around the a/c. By the way, although the strap was of high quality, it came with the buckles installed incorrectly and I had to 'fix' this before the strap was usable. No big deal! It's a good product.

A: Yes. There is no bottom for the cover, just top and 3 sides. Therefore the securing straps will fit over or around any support under the unit.

A: The covers fit fine but I did not have a support bracket.

A: Yes. The cover material does not wrap under the bottom of the air conditioner so you don’t have to worry about the bracing interfering with the cover. Remember, the objective is the cover the outside of the unit on the top, sides and front to protect it from the outside elements during the winter. With the bottom exposed, some air flow is permitted thereby preventing any mold formation in the unit. You would never want to completely wrap the outside of a unit for that reason.

A: Yes. It only covers the two sides and top. Bottom is open.

A: Yes this fits very well and is made of thick vinyl with a fleece like liner, it’s well worth the extra over polypropylene and other cheaper alternatives. Ours lasted the tough Michigan winter this year. Comes with two pull straps to secure tightly, ours covered a 6k BTU unit so was a bit wide, should be a good fit for larger 8-12k BTU widths, we just duck taped up the excess. Hope that helps!

Q:How are these covers supposed to fit? I have both a small and a medium to pick the one that fits the best. Frigidaire 12000 BTU AC, but the small fits best at the seams except that it is about an inch short at the window. No material to wrap underneath the unit at all. The Medium is really large, but there is enough fabric to wrap underneath for almost full coverage. Would have to fold under at the window, as it's really long there as well. The seams don't match at the edges at all... about 4" on each side but there is enough to fold under at the bottom and wrap almost the whole AC all around. Are they supposed to just fit or is it OK to wrap underneath for more protection?

A: I bought a small for my 8000 and a med for my 10000. Both are a little big, but I folded what I could under the unit and strapped it in. Hope this helps.

A: I had same ill-fitting issues. I have the small one. I figure since I bought it to keep out draft & rain it was ok. Not perfect by any means but ok. I would probably opt for medium and fold & wrap extra underneath.
by|May 5, 2023
A: I used the small to get best fit all around. The missing inch wasnt a big deal for me. My main goal was to keep rain from collecting in the unit and getting in the house. It did well enough. Do clean often so mold doesnt grow in it.

A: Roady,
It is okay to wrap the excess under your unit. We provide multiple sizes to be able to accommodate as many units as possible. This means that you will not always have a perfect fit. If the inch short at the window allows the cover to meet your needs than I suggest you use the small. If you are looking for a more complete coverage it might be best to go with the medium.
by|May 5, 2023
A: I bought the small and it is WAY too big for my small LG unit-The included straps didn't come close to holding it on-it IS a nice heavy cover and would have probably worked very well with a bigger window unit.
by|May 5, 2023
A: I have an 8,000 BTU air conditioner. I use to take it out of the window every winter. I bought a small cover as an experiment to see if i could leave it in the window all year. The cover is open at the bottom it only blocks the front, top, and sides and it is larger in size than my air conditioner. It is held in place by an encircling nylon strap. The strap is not enough to keep the cover from ballooning up in a strong wind. My fix was white color Gorilla tape that the window above can close down on. I am not going to repeat next winter the accordion side panels leak air and water if the wind is strong.

A: No, the AC needs to vent the heat outside.

A: No, the cover cannot be used while the unit is in operation.

A: No! The external fan assembly, condenser coil and compressor will all overheat if it is covered and there is no air flow presenting a potential fire hazard.
by|Jul 14, 2023

A: Absolutely not. The whole idea is that it sucks out warm air from your room and exhausts it out side. There needs to be plenty a ventilation around the part of the A/C that's outside while operating.

A: The question isn't as stupid as you thought. Although this cover cannot be used while in operation, the concept of a mesh-like cover that would cover the entire unit and still allow the air to travel through, sounds like a very good idea. Perhaps the company A/C SAFE can work on offering that item. I'm sure they'd have takers.
