A:  Yes it will fit your rail, just not any larger.

A:  The planter measures 3" at the bottom opening and then tapers down to two inches at the top of the opening. If your railing is 2.5" wide it would seem they would fit but they have to be secured to the railing and the picture you see for securing the lanter is not what I received. They changed the bottom of the planter. If your rail is not more than 1/2" thick it can be secured, more than that I would pass on this planter. You also need a vertical post to secure this planter and it has to be less the three inches. If I were you I would opt for something different.
