Q:can this pot be spray painted?
by|Apr 30, 2024

Answer This Question

A:  Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We have reached out to the manufacturer and their answer is,Yes, this planter can be spray painted with aerosol paints found in the paint department of your local Home Depot store. Because this material is similar to cement and clay planters in composition, it is important to follow the following steps: 1) follow the application instructions of paint manufacturer(clean, dry, etc) 2) apply waterproofing layer to interior of the planter to prevent paint adhesion failure after planting 3) apply top coat sealer to protect your paint job. Please don't hesitate to reach back out if you have any additional questions."

Q:What is the best way to make a hole in the bottom for drainage without damaging the planter?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi NanaFlorida, thank you for the inquiry. You can use a standard Wood/Metal drill bit to drill a drainage hole in the bottom of this planter without any concern of damaging the container. There is no need for a specialty drill bit. Please don't hesitate to reach back out with any additional questions.

      Q:Is the pot waterproof

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Alfred, thank you for the inquiry. This planter comes without a predrilled drainage hole in the instance that a customer might want to use it indoors, without concern of water damage to the floor. With that said, if you're using it indoors, it may be good to place a pad under it to prevent condensation similar to what is recommended under a saucer. If you're wanting to use it as a fountain then I would recommend applying a waterproofing layer inside the container since the product breathes similarly to terracotta and there will be condensation. It will not leak unless there is some preexisting structural damage. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any additional questions.

This is a lightweight and attractive alternative to a ceramic or concrete planter. The neutral color and pattern of the planter will never detract from your plants. The outside is a matte concrete finish. I took a point off of the quality rating because the planter arrived with a thin, uneven finish on the rim. I have a smaller version of this planter, and it was delivered with a perfect finish. The black resin interior looked good. The planter doesn’t have a drain hole in the bottom. There’s a label on the inside bottom of the planter to remind you to drill a drain hole if you need it. You will need a drain hole if you use the planter outside, where you may not be able to control the water getting into the planter. I easily drilled a drain hole with 3/8” masonry drill. Because the planter is light and many potting soils are light, you may need to place a brick or cinder block at the bottom before filling with soil. Otherwise, your plant and planter might be top heavy. I planted the planter with succulents, which can get heavy, and fast-draining soil, so this one got a brick at the bottom of the planter for stability. Looks great!

Lightweight but not cheap, really has that industrial concrete look, don't forget to drill your drain hole if you are using it outside. I planted a Orange Rocket Barberry a Lemony Lace Elderberry and Autumn Fire Sedum in this picture.

Incredibly handsome, this pot is beautiful on our patio. I did not drill the hole for drainage so we can move this into a more interior place on the patio next season and not get dirty stains from overwatering. We simply filled the bottom with rocks for drainage, added soil, my plant, then cedar mulch. This drab, nothing-special-corner of our patio now looks modern and fresh. Another few weeks, we’ll put a trellis to the side for the cucumber and we’ll be eating fresh cucumbers from the patio all summer long! We celebrated Earth Day by planting something, and my girls were so proud of their little plant. I’m proud of how it looks on the patio, not to mention this pot took very little energy to produce since it is not fired in production. Strong, light-weight, and made of ecologically-friendly materials, this beautiful crucible pot is a win-win for our family and the environment. Happy Earth Day!

These containers are gorgeous. They came packaged well and in good shape. They look like concrete but are light - I could carry each with one hand (before filling). I easily drilled a drain hole in the bottom of the pot. A great tip for tall containers like this is to cut dollar store pool noodles into 6-8 inch pieces and put in the bottom 1/2 of the container before filling with potting soil. That helps to keep it light enough to move around and also saves on soil. These are a great addition to my front porch.

This planter looks like it weights 100+ lbs, yet it probably weights about 15; and better yet you can easily drill holes in it to get water in or to add drainage (I did both). I filled the bottom 1/3 with a bag of lava rock, and the top 1/2 with sandy potting soil for suculents. Then added my plants and connected it to my drip system, looks great, and the potting volume is much more than a cement vase would be, and much easier to move. Love the way it looks, and a great value.

Beautiful planter, good for indoor or outdoor use (with some modification). This planter is lightweight, it's made from a fiberglass reinforced cement mixture, so it's sturdy too and can handle freezes without cracking. The planter itself looks like it's made from cement and is very attractive, especially when grouped with multiple planters in different sizes. With something this tall, you want to add some of the packing Styrofoam to the bottom of the planter to allow for drainage, and to eliminate the need to fill it completely with soil and keep it lighter so it's easier to move. You have to be careful though that you don't use too much foam that it becomes top heavy and susceptible to tipping in winds. To use this outdoors you need to drill a drainage hole in the bottom. I wish it came with a hole already and a plastic plug, but it was no problem to drill a h circle of holes in it then punch out the bigger hole. When you do this you see that it's loaded with fiberglass which explains how it can be so lightweight yet so sturdy. This is an awesome addition to our garden and I'll likely get several more in the future. I'm using it for a lavender bush and a small rosebush, which give it a somewhat southwestern look. This was unexpected but appreciated.
