3.5 qt. Dust Control Ready-Mixed Joint Compound

A:  Phil- The USG Sheetrock® Brand Dust Control Ready-Mix Joint Compound has great open/working time and will remain workable in your pan as you apply it to the substrate. Setting time can range from several hours to several days depending on the scope of the project, application (fill, float, skim, etc.) and job site conditions. The ambient temperature, relative humidity, and air flow in the space can all affect how long it take this product to completely cure. The shelf life is 9 months from date of manufacturer.

A:  Carolyn, Thank you for choosing USG Sheetrock Brand Dust Control Ready-Mixed Joint Compound for your project. This material is ready to use, to begin mix lightly without adding water. If you are adding water, we recommend adding it sparingly.

A:  Use a can of texture paint to spray on & around the area before priming. That will blend the smooth surface with the painted surfaces.  Unfortunately, that’s just how it comes out after patching (with any type of mud) if the texture paint isn’t used.

A:  Mine did the same thing. I am not sure might be a question to ask someone who works at a paint store like Sherwin Williams. 

A:  The marks on your wall are likely due to an orange peel or other kind of texturing product and are not from your paint brush/roller.  You will need to add that texture over your patch prior to painting it. These types of products can be purchased separately.  A good roller will leave minimal marks on your wall and shouldn’t produce a texture. 

A:  Kate Thank you for your inquiry. If the area you patched has a smooth glossy appearance, typically this is from over working the mud once it has started to cure or applying a layer on one which has not dried yet. Hope this helps.

A:  Yes it can be used for skim coating. If you use a roller for it just cut it with a bit of water. Mix to about a yoghurt like feel. Roll and smooth out. (Use a 14 inch or wider smoothing tool)

A:  Jimmy Thank you for your inquiry. USG recommends using Sheetrock All Purpose Joint Compound or Sheetrock Plus 3 Joint Compound for skim coating. If the walls have already been painted use fine sand paper or mesh to lightly sand them before applying the skim coat. Hope this helps.
