Q:Is the WIZZ short lived or basically worn out after 3 yrs of good use?
    by|Nov 9, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  The Scotts Wizz Spreader should last many years with proper use and care. Putting heavy products in it to spread will cause wear and possible damage. The batteries in this product should last for several applications depending on how large your lawn is and what you are putting down.

Q:Do the numbers on the adjustment knob refer to any type of measurement ; like grams, ounces,,,?
      by|Aug 2, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Setting on the Scotts Wizz Spreader are calibrated for Scotts products. To get the proper setting for a non-Scotts product you can do a 50'X20' test area. Place enough material in the hopper to cover 1,000 sq. ft. (Usually indicated on the bag of product, if not indicated, take pounds in bag and divide by the number of thousand square feet bag covers. Example: 23lb bag covers 5,000 sq ft, divide 23 by 5 to get 4.6lbs per 1,000 sq ft). Place the spreader setting on a low setting (Usually one-fourth of the spreader setting range or less). Spread the material over a 50 x 20 ft. area (This is 1,000 sq. ft.). If material is left over, you need to increase the setting. If you come up short, you need to decrease the setting. While this is not a scientific method for getting the spreader setting, it will get you in the ballpark for their product or spreader.

Sent Scotts issue and hope to receive a response.
Had problems with the Malorganite fertilizer beads collecting beneath the rotary spreader plate preventing spreading of the Scotts Wizz Spreader. The design of the spreader plate needs to increase the diameter of the plate to prevent bead from passing between the housing wall and collecting underneath the spreader plate. In addition, the gap between the bottom of the spreader plate needs to have ejector wings that can discharge any beads that can collect between the spreader plate and the housing base. Upon disassembly I noticed that the lead to the batteries were pinched for they were not in the correct position as install assembly when the base was fastened in place. However that was not a root cause of the problem. Over time cold flow of the wire insulation under pressure could have resulted in a short discharging the batteries. Also noted the the feature that limits the dispersion pattern allow the Malorganite beads to collect between the selector wheel and the housing increasing the area where the beads can bypass the spreader wheel and collect beneath it prevent proper broadcasting of the beads.

                Power source and motor
Not the best power source. It seems that the contacts are oxidizing with the different products and environments. Even with the enclosure the batteries will produce gases. Cleaned the contacts and the plate spins better. The the settings will vary based on walk speed, weight of product, pitch of plate in reference to terrain ( heavy product mean gravity of the “throw”), compounding this with the inexpensive motor and the plastic frame of the Wiz unit. There is change in the framing of the unit which causes compression of the motor overtime. This is noticeable by placing the unit on the table without product then press the button to operate. Any weight on the unit compresses the motor and plate. Therefore walking and pitch of a heavier product compounds stress on the motor. Also add the dust from the product building up over time and the increased resistance in battery power flow. My next check will be to open up the unit. I’ve had this unit for at least a year, I rarely use for field projects due to standard batteries vs battery pack units, and the product I use are very expensive. This product gets 3 stars. The power and motor would get the other 2 stars. Thank you

How ironic that I would get this review summary. On the day that I returned this product. I really did , I have had a regular fertilizer hand spreader for a long time. So as I was in your store last week I purchased this product on a wim. I got home pulled the battery protector and used the Wizz spreader twice on the front lawn. Put the Wizz in the garage because it was Time to go in for dinner. The next morning I filled the spreader and headed for the back lawn engaged the button , nothing no movement no noise I shook it around a little thinking something was jammed still nothing. I emptied the fertilizer I had in the holder back into the bag. And tried it again, opened up the battery compartment switched the batteries around no luck, replaced them with new ones that I had no luck. I tried again the next day and the next day strike 3 your out took my batteries out replaced them with the original batteries that it came with one more try for good measure. No good. So less then a week later I have returned it back to customer service and will just continue to use my old tried and true hand crank spreader. This is my unsatisfied customer summary.

Eh. When it works, it works.
It was great while it lasted. I got a good three months out of it (three uses) before it stopped working. Changed the batteries and one of the battery terminal coils broke off. Shoulda just gotten the manual feeder.

I have had my for over 1 year now. Bought mine after I watched my son use his. Very simple and effective. I start in the far corner of my yard and walk backwards. Than do each row walking backwards, with slight overlap. That way I don't get any on my shoes!!! Simple!

                      AA Batteries too weak
I have had 2 of these given to me as gifts. Think about it. How in the world are AA batteries going to work in a lawn care product. Both had the same issue of running ok for about 5 minutes then slowly died. It takes 3 sets of batteries to fertilize my small city lot. And that's only the front and side yard. There are now other brands of this concept that use standard rechargeable 18V lithium tool batteries. These are going to be heavier, but it beats taking out a tiny screw and replacing batteries 6 or 7 times a year. Had to go back to using this old antique. Going to get a broadcast spreader with wheels if I can find one without bad reviews. These hand held ones don't like a windy day. You end up with fertilized shoes and socks.

                        Control fell off
I bought this product today and used it for the first time. I tried to adjust the width of the spray and the control fell off. I am not returning it because the spray width works for what I need it for

                          Easy to use, simple....
I bought this last fall. I really like it. I had a drop spreader but just couldn't really get the hang of it. This is a lot better.
