Answer This Question

A:  According to gardenia.net, color guard yucca is hardy in zones 4-10. So, should be ok to grow in IL assuming plant is growing in well drained soil.

by|Apr 9, 2023

A:  The Color Guard Yucca is conditioned for planting zones 4a through 10b.

    by|Apr 8, 2023

A:  Yucca plants, including the Color Guard Yucca from the Southern Living Plant Collection, can generally survive in the Midwest, including Illinois, but their ability to withstand severe cold temperatures may vary depending on the specific conditions and the particular yucca variety. Color Guard Yucca is more cold-tolerant than some other yucca species and is known to be hardy to USDA Hardiness Zones 4-10. In Illinois, which encompasses Zones 5a to 6b, these yuccas should generally do well. However, it's important to provide them with well-draining soil and proper winter care, including mulching around the base to insulate the roots from extreme cold. While they can withstand cold temperatures, exceptionally harsh winters may still require additional protection or may result in some leaf damage. Overall, with proper precautions and attention to their needs, Color Guard Yuccas can thrive in Illinois.

        Answer This Question

A:  An Internet search stated “Toxicity: Toxic to Dogs, Toxic to Cats, Toxic to Horses. Toxic Principles: Saponins.” It’s a great plant but probably should be avoided if you have pets

A:  Color Guard Yucca plants are considered mildly toxic to pets. They contain saponins, which can cause digestive discomfort and irritation if ingested by cats or dogs. Common symptoms of yucca ingestion in pets may include drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, and mild stomach upset. While it's not among the most toxic plants, it's still important to be cautious and keep your pets away from Color Guard Yuccas to prevent any potential issues. If you suspect your pet has ingested part of the plant and they exhibit severe symptoms, it's advisable to contact your veterinarian for guidance and care.

            Answer This Question

A:  Color Guard Yucca, also known as Adam's Needle, generally thrives in full sun or partial sun. They prefer at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day to grow and flower successfully. In full sun, they tend to develop their characteristic yellow and green variegated foliage most vibrantly and produce more abundant blooms. However, they can tolerate some light shade, especially in hot climates where a bit of afternoon shade can help protect them from intense sunlight. While they are adaptable to a range of light conditions, providing them with full sun will result in the healthiest and most visually appealing growth.

            by|Oct 31, 2023

A:  Yes, the Color Guard Yucca requires full sun.

We got this plant for our front yard and we did get it at 50% off . Because a few stem leaves were bowing down. Love the colors and the look of the plant . It hasnt really revived yet but doesn't look like its dying. It does say no pruning needed but i wonder if it wont hurt the plant if i cut thrm off . Will do more research, im new to landscaping and plants

This is such a vital plant in a landscape in our northeast sector of Texas. It withstands the blistering summer sun, and the freezing temperatures in winter. I couldn’t find any healthy looking ones locally, and I had a great experience ordering plants form Home Depot before, that I decided to try it again. Plants were super healthy looking and arrived in great shape. Very pleased with the ordering experience, and they look great in their new location! They did come in two separate shipments, but only one day apart.

                B-ware!!!
Plant arrived early and looked good, hardy and healthy. My son brought it inside to open box because it was getting close to sundown and was overcast, when he got plant out a wasp flew out! Im yelling “was that a bug!” While the dog is trying to chomp it my son is trying to get around dog to step on it. He finally got it outside; he said it was acting like it was in hibernation mode, and he squashed it!! So bee ware! The plant went outside too.
